Alex Summers looked at the gravestone, not fully accepting that, even after all these years, she was gone. Everything had been so perfect, almost like a fairy tale romance. And then of course, came the news that his baby was having a baby. The news had made the happy couple and their friends overjoyed. ‘And the family tree keeps growing,’ said Alex with a chuckle.

Not all reactions were perfect of course…

“WHAT?! A BABY?!” Samantha Grey yelled out. Sam, who was Jean’s daughter, had always been the only child. It would be hard to ask her to just make space for someone new. “I know it’s hard, Sam. But you’ve gotta accept it.” Jean reasoned with the blonde child. Alex could at Jean then at Sam, then back at Jean, as if watching a good tennis game. “Can I kill it…?” Samantha asked with a smirk. Jean frowned and crossed her arms. “No you may not, young lady. You’re going to love your brother or sister and of course, you’ll be its role model.” Jean said. Samantha sighed and frowned; It seemed the baby was here to stay. She couldn’t do anything but accept it.

But as the months went by, even Sam’s opinion changed. She was somewhat excited that she would have someone to waddle with, a little minion and truthfully, she would never be alone. Of course, she would never tell Jean about her thoughts. She started to awkwardly decorate Jean’s belly with weird penguin gibberish while Alex would look confused, trying to figure out what his stepdaughter was doing. It seemed as though as if everyone was overprotective of Jean, and with good reason—The pregnancy itself was a high risk one. Mother and child needed to rest as much as possible, which wasn’t easy for Jean. She was the action type; Being stuck in bed or a chair for hours pained her. You’re doing alright, Alex would say, trying to encourage Jean. She’d give him a weak smile which in reality was a pity smile.

“So you guys aren’t going to find out the sex of the baby until it’s born—In three fucking months?!” Scott Summers, brother of Alex and the so called face of mutantkind (and homosexuality), asked the couple. Jean and Alex nodded. “It’s better that way. It keeps the mystery going on. Besides, we ain’t exactly you. You were impatient and stubborn when the time to find out what the sex of your child was going to be. I mean, doesn’t it spoil the surprise a little?” Jean asked Scott. Scott shrugged and shook his head. “It adds excitement more than anything, really. And you know if you should buy girl or boy stuff. Saves you time and worry.” Scott said. Alex nodded and grabbed Jean’s hand, intertwining their fingers. “I guess… but truthfully, we only care if it’s healthy and happy. The sex isn’t important because we’ll love him or her either way. Unlike you, big brother, I can wait to find out the sex of my child.” Alex said which caused Scott to roll his eyes and scoff. “Well, I was curious. Is that such a crime? Either way, it’s Alex’s child,’ he turned to Jean, “You shouldn’t expect too much from his sperm.” Alex frowned facepalmed. “Seriously? And I thought Scott had matured. Seems I’m now the more mature Summers.” Alex said, making Jean chuckle. “Mhmm, mhmm. How about fuck you.” Scott said, clearing his throat. “That would be incest. And I’m also kinda married. Pity, I know.” Alex teased. “Oh dear.” Jean said. Scott eyed Jean and put his hand on her shoulder. “I’m so sorry you had to setttle down for the unperfect brother.  Well kids, I wish I could stay but I gotta go to my wonderful and loving husband who is taking care of our perfect baby.” Scott said with a smirk showing in his face. “Logan is loving…?” Alex asked, trying hard not to laugh. Scott shot a glare in Alex’s direction. “Quiet, you.” He said as he walked away. “Scott wasn’t worth pushing out.” Alex said softly. “I HEARD YOU, BLONDE DWEEB!” Scott yelled. Jean and Alex gasped and laughed uncontrollably, as they didn’t think Scott would hear them. “Well… His hearing sense is pretty good…” Jean said.

Jean met up with Doctor Hank McCoy a few hours later by herself. He was, of course, the team’s doctor and the only person who would treat a pregnant omega level mutant without any fear. And of course, he was also one of Jean’s best friends and confidantes.

“Well if it isn’t the lovely Jean and her equally lovely tummy.” Hank said as he saw Jean go through the door. He still couldn’t believe it. The team’s sweetheart was about to have a baby. It was as though as if yesterday had gone by too fast.

“Ohh Hank.” Jean said as she blushed and smiled sweetly. Hank walked up to Jean and hugged her carefully, as her 7 month stomach got in the way. “So you’re ready to check on that baby?” Hank asked excitedly. Jean nodded and looked down at her bump. She sighed, “I know everything will be alright… I mean, the high risk is gone... Right?” Jean asked nervously. “The risk never goes away, Jean. Even in a healthy pregnancy. But we shall keep our hopes up, right?” He said, giving her a soft pat on the back.

Hank performed many different tests on Jean, especially since he wanted to know if the baby would be a powerful mutant—though he still couldn’t know for sure.

Jean sat on the chair, anxiously waiting the results. She fidgeted with her fingers, trying to calm her nerves down. Hank walked through the door with the papers in his hand and smiled. A good sign, Jean thought. "Seems everything is perfect. A few vitamins could be used. Other than that, this baby is perfect.” He said, readjusting his glasses. Jean smiled and pursed her lips, trying to keep her excitement down. ‘T-That’s great! Thank you, Hank!” Jean said. Hank chuckled and smiled. “Now that does not mean there isn’t risk, so I would like you to be careful, alright?” He asked. Jean nodded and smiled, “A-Alright.” She said. “She looks like--…” Hank stopped himself even though he had just gave it all away. Jean’s eyes widened and gasped. “It’s a she?!” She asked with joy. “Jeannie, I’m so sorry. I-I know you and Alex didn’t want the sex of the baby to be revealed…" Hank quickly apologized but Jean shook her head. “Hank, no need to apologize. It’s alright, we were going to find out sooner or later.” Jean said, trying to comfort Hank. The lovely Beast buried his head in his hands and sighed quite loudly. “No, no. I messed up the surprise.” Jean extended and uncovered Hank’s face. “Hank… It’s alright. No harm done.” She smiled warmly. Hank started to smile again, slowly. That smile always gets me, Hank thought...
