---- I decided to replace this chapter seeing as the content from before doesn't really flow well with the rest of the piece. The content will be dispersed throughout the story, just not in the large chunk it was before. I decided to replace it here with something tat would develop the relationship between Boo and his mother just a little more. Enjoy!
“Mom?” I murmur through the cracked opening of her door. Through it I can see her crumpled form collapsed on her bedspread, facing away from me.
“Yes, hon,” she answers. I sigh as I push the door open further.
“About earlier… I’m sorry.”
“It’s not your fault, Boo,” she assures, “You’d just woken up; I didn’t give you your medication. It was my fault.”
My throat tightens as I look to the floor. My mother was an extremely empathetic person, which is not an ideal trait for a woman with a bipolar and schizophrenic son. Once again, she was taking blame for my fault.
“No,” I say, “It wasn’t that.” My mother turns to face me, tears in her eyes.
“Then what was it, Boo?” she asks. My guilt is soon replaced with fury.
It’s my goddamn name you stupid bitch! A voice inside of me rises. I suppress it, but the rage still resides in my chest.
“Don’t worry about. All you need to know is that it wasn’t… your fault,” I choke on the last two words. I can no longer determine whose fault it is on this occasion. I don’t want to blame my mother for my problems, but I’m tired of blaming myself.
My mother nods her head, “Okay.”
“Goodnight, Mom,” I say, beginning to shut the door.
“Boo,” she stops me. I freeze, jaw clenched at the sound of my name. “I love you.”
My body and rage soften at the sound of her words. I no longer know whether I should feel guilt or malice. I feel warmer, yet the voice within me still grumbles.
“Love you, too,” I whisper back, closing the door.
