Chapter 3

~Carolyn~

Birds flew by over our heads whistling to one another about the arrival of nightfall. I looked up admiring the pink and blue sky streaked with light grey clouds and sighed carefully leaning back against the tree trunk aware of Jay laying on my legs. We had talked for an hour or so until he leaned against me and dozed of as my thumb stroked hair out of his face.He lay there, peacfully, occasionally his face contorted into discomfort only to be soothed by my soft stroking.

Nature around me was peaceful, I love the outdoors, everything about it; so natural with its fresh air never failing to relax my nerves. Being accompanied by every small insect and critter was better than being surrounded by all the commotion and anger of the city and town. As a child, my father would lose me too often when he took me on his business trips into the city. Can't blame him, I ran to the nearest tree,or patch of life to get away from it all. Anytime I was near anything related to the outdoors, was when I met my peak. I'd always find my happy place, even with a small delicate flower in hand, my mood would immediatly brighten.

"Carolyn? Carolyn! ...Darling where are you?" "I’m over here daddy." I replied aloud wondering why he sounded worried. The sound of rushed footsteps neared me as my father's figure appeared before me. "Carolyn! There you are!" He said his pace quickening as his eyes met mine. "I told you to stay near me, sweetie, you worried me so!" Daddy rushed out, kneeling down to wrap his arms around me “I’m sorry." I whispered picking up a petite purple petal off the mulch behind me. I was seated on a small cement bench surrounded by potted plants that sat in the middle of the lobby. “Don’t be, sweetie, I'm just glad I found you." He looked at me again then sighed. "Now, I need to get to my meeting, will you be alright?" He asked looking down at me releasing me of his embrace. "I will!" I smiled back showing him the petal "I got this!" "Well, alright then, I'll be over in that room." He replied pointing towards a glass room to our right, within it sat a large conference table with many chairs surrounding it." Stay here where I know where you'll be... I got to go, I'll see in about an hour or so...I love you sweetie." He then said to me kissing my forehead and standing up." I love you too..." I slowly replied as he began to walk away.

I smiled at my small memory remembering my strange childhood of never ending travelling. Once I reached middle school my father and I moved in a small house, away from the city, since then we haven't moved at all... Only went on long trips. Which now I’m glad for, if we hadn't stayed I would not have met Jay.

"No, No!" Jay harshly whispered as I looked down at him and tried to calm him down by stroking his hair. He continued to move and struggle out of my grasp as I realized he may be having a nightmare. "Jay, it's fine, I'm here...Wake up." I said watching as his face changed into a disgusted expression. His eyes then began to flutter open and his pupils widened as he looked into my eyes. “Carolyn...Carolyn!" He leaped up and out of my lap then tackled me with an embrace. I squealed as the last of my breath was knocked out of me. “Cara... thank God you're okay!" He sighed quietly to himself. I looked up into his brown eyes giving him a confused and worried look "Yeah, I'm here, Why are you so surprised of my presence?" I sighed pushing him off me so I could sit up. “Well-"

He grunted sitting down next to me "It's a long story..."

~Jay~

I then began to tell Carolyn about my dream, which thank God it turned out to be. As I told her my nightmare her eyes grew in fascination, when I explained the way I hungered for her blood and how that sickened me, her eyes then practically bulged out of her head in not disgust, but as if she were empathetic to the way I was feeling about my confusing mixture of lust and disgust.

“Gosh, I wonder what your dream could mean." “You and me both." I murmured
