So, several weeks passed since my mom and I had moved into the mansion, which I insisted on calling Tara because of how it looked. It was now nearing the time when I would have to go to Diagon Alley to get my school supplies.
“Dasha! Let’s go.” My mother shouted up the stairs.
I rolled my eyes, my mother was always shouting, and got dressed, I wasn’t a robe person, I preferred normal fashion. I put on a pair of light grey skinny jeans and a blue crop top, did my make up, put in all my piercings (snake bites, eyebrow, tongue, and belly button), and came downstairs. She rolled her eyes at my choice of dress and we teleported to Diagon Alley. My mom didn’t have her apparition license, and since my teleportation ability wasn’t detectable by the ministry, that’s how we travelled. My head hurt a bit, but since the distance wasn’t that great and I was only teleporting my mother and myself, the pain was manageable. We skipped Ollivander’s, since I already had a wand, and went straight to Madame Malkin’s for my robes. However, I already knew I’d be breaking all kinds of rules if they thought I was going to wear them. However, once in there, I got a surprise. Apparently, sixth and seventh years were allowed to wear whatever they wanted. So I left the shop and went to get the other things I would need. When we were done, I was ready to go home when my mom took me into the owl emporium.
“You need an owl.” She simply said, and stood at the entrance.
I shrugged and began walking through the store, glancing at the owls. Suddenly, I squealed, something I rarely do, and picked up a cage containing the most interesting owl I had ever seen. It was a female, according to the tag, and her colors were amazing. She was white with black markings around her eyes, black wings leading to an inch and a half wide black strip that connected her wings across her back, and her tail feathers were black also. She also had two black feathers sticking up from her head that looked like ears, all in all, this owl had a panda’s coloration. I hugged the cage to my chest and took it up to the counter. After paying for my owl, who I named Panda, my mother and I teleported home.
I immediately took my things up to my room and placed Panda’s cage on the desk by the window. Opening the door, I let her perch on the top of her cage as I wrote a quick letter to one of my best friends. No, he wasn’t from back home, actually, he was from England. We had started off as pen pals, a stupid project assigned by one of my tutors, and I wasn’t to happy about writing. However, I soon found out that Ryan and I had a lot in common, and we stayed pen pals until the end.
Ryan,
Well, my mother finally got me an owl and I named her Panda. When she brings you this letter, you’ll know why. I know it’s been a while since I’ve written, but you know me, I usually have better things to do and trouble to get into. Anyway, I just wanted to ask, are you still being homeschooled? My mother got a new job in England and now I’m supposed to be attending Hogwarts. I don’t want to go to school, I’ve already told you my issues with people, how am I gonna keep from getting kicked out when people annoy me? Ugh, life sucks sometimes. Write me back douche.
Dasha.
I folded the letter and wrote Ryans name on the front before handing it to Panda who took it in her beak. She lifted her wings and flew out the window, taking her sweet time. I rolled my eyes, I could already tell that she was a lazy bird. Leaving my window open, I laid back on my bed with my eyes closed, loving the velvety feel of my down comforter. Flipping over to my stomach, I opened up my bedside table and pulled out a book, not surprisingly, I was reading Gone With The Wind. I had started re-reading the book as soon as we had moved in, and I wasn’t done with it yet.
I had been reading for several hours when Panda returned, carrying a letter in her beak. I smiled and stroked her head for a few minutes before opening the letter and reading Ryan’s reply. It was slightly cryptic, containing only three words;
Dasha,
See you soon.
Ryan hadn’t even signed it, though I knew he was the one who had written it. As I pondered his reply, I felt myself nod off. Tomorrow was the day that I would be leaving to go to Hogwarts, however, according to my mother; I would be sorted on the train before arriving at the school.
I rose with the dawn the next morning, feeling slightly excited and somewhat nervous. Panda was sleeping in her cage, which I had left open after receiving Ryan’s reply. I used telekenisis, an ability inherited from my mother, the angel, to pack my trunk. As soon as I had everything packed, I walked downstairs dragging my trunk. I left it by the fireplace and went back upstairs to grab Panda. With her cage in hand, I met my mother by the fireplace, and we walked outside to a muggle taxi. I couldn’t use my teleportation abilities to get to the train, mainly because I wanted to keep my powers under wraps for a while, so it was muggle transportation for us. We reached King’s Cross Station and we quickly found the platform we were looking for. Well, I found it, another one of the abilities I inherited from my father was his ability to see through hidden barriers as well as lies. I can’t really control that one though, it comes and goes as it pleases. As I stared up at the scarlet train in front of me, I felt a pair of hands encircle my waist.
“Hey sexy.” A male voice said.
My mother just stood in front of me, trying not to laugh. I smirked at her, grabbed the arms around my waist, and threw whoever was behind me to the ground. I smirked down at him, and my face went bright crimson.
“RYAN LAKE!! THAT WAS SO NOT FUNNY!” I shouted, helping him up before hitting him hard on the shoulder. Ryan stumbled, laughing. I muttered curse words as people stared at us.
“I didn’t think you’d react like that Dasha.” Ryan said, pushing his jet black bangs out of his bright blue eyes.
“You know my temper and the fact that I don’t like to be touched, how would you not know?” I said, rolling my eyes.
Though Ryan and I had never met in person, we had sent pictures to one another with our letters so I knew what he looked like. The train whistle blew and I hugged my mother goodbye. After handing my trunk to the porter, I boarded the train behind Ryan and we found an empty compartment.
“So, I thought you were homeschooled as well.” I said, sitting across from him.
“Nope, you just assumed that I was. You never asked me where I went to school.” He replied.
“Oh, so you’ve been going to Hogwarts this entire time?” I asked, Ryan simply nodded.
We began to catch up until three people entered our compartment, two of the girls were obviously twins while the third looked to be either Indian or Native American, and when I say Indian, I mean from India.
“Hey Ry, I thought we’d find you here.” One of the blond girls said, the one with short hair.
“Who’s your friend?” Her twin added. The Indian girl stayed silent.
“Hey guys. This is my American friend Dasha.” He said, smiling. “Dasha, these are some of my friends. The girl with short blond hair is Elena Parker, her twin is Paisley, and the silent one is Jasminda.” He added.
“It’s nice to meet you.” I said, smiling. So far, I wasn’t having to bad of a day.
