"Addison, you need to work harder. F's aren't acceptable in this house." My mom droned on, continuing to annoy me to no end. My algebra grade had dropped to a 70, which is the lowest D possible. I knew it would go down one more point before the end of the semester, and so did my mom, which was the cause of the whole argument.
"It's not as easy as you think, Mom. If I could just snap my fingers, and bring my grade up, I would." I fired back, grabbing a water bottle and my lanyard.
"Stop being a smartass. We'll talk later." My mom sighed in defeat and pushed her glasses further up her nose.
With a smirk from my victory, I got in my Jeep and drove to the local gym. Most girls went there to see the hot guys, but I went to stay fit. My step dad didn't exactly approve of my weight, or anything I did for that matter. Everything was an argument with him- from my weight, to where the last cookie went.
I hopped onto the elliptical and put Drake & Future on shuffle. Rap can really get you going during a workout.
Before I knew it, it was unfortunately time to get home and have our usual family dinner. That meant it was time to continue my moms lecture from earlier. I finished up my workout, took a sip of water, and left the gym.
"Addison, sit down," my mom motioned for me to sit across from her as soon as I entered the dining room upon my arrival. Some nights, dinner was only my mom and I. My step dad, being a surgeon, often worked late nights. My mom lifted the lid off of the pan of stir fry and dished a serving onto my plate. "I decided that you are going to start seeing a tutor," she said as I tipped my glass over in order to allow water to enter my mouth.
"What?!" I blurted out, choking on the liquid. "You have got to be kidding me..."
"Actually, I'm not being anything other than serious. You meet for the first time tomorrow," she replied, an unamused look on her aging face.
"There's no way I'm doing that. Could you have told me any later?" I complained, stabbing at a piece of chicken with a look of disgust.
"No. Not another word on the subject, Addison. Not another word." I sighed in discontent and shoved my chair backwards, stalking off from the table and into the comfort of my room. I grabbed my laptop and opened up Twitter, checking my notifications. Somehow, I had a few hundred thousand followers. I mainly posted aesthetically pleasing things and my random thoughts, which I never thought would get so much attention."Failing algebra so my mom decided to get me a tutor. Kms" I posted. It was all getting to my head so I decided to meditate and forget about the whole issue. As soon as I closed my eyes and began listening, my eyes slowly shut as I drifted off to sleep.
"Addison! What did I tell you about falling asleep with those earbuds in? You could choke," my annoying mother shouted. What a great wake up call. I pulled out my earbuds and threw off my blanket, following my mom to the kitchen. "I made pancakes. Eat." She pushed a plate towards me and raised her eyebrows.
"What time do I meet the dork that's going to teach me algebra?"
"Right after school in the library. You're going to come back here together. And stop calling him a dork. You haven't even met him. He could be the sweetest and hottest guy in the world." I laughed and popped a strawberry from on top of the pancakes into my mouth.
"My expectations aren't very high,"
I sighed. I wondered which nerd it could've been from my school. None of them were hot. I finished up eating my pancakes and went upstairs to get ready. I put on a white shirt that said Vans on it, black leggings, and black Vans. I put my hair into a messy bun and slapped on some makeup. I was ready to go at this point, so I went downstairs, grabbed my keys, and headed off. This was going to be a long day.Seven hours later, school (also known as hell) was over. After going to my locker, I walked into the library, where I was meeting my mystery tutor. I didn't see any dorks there yet, so I sat down at a table alone and checked my Twitter. Ten minutes went by without me noticing. I looked around the room. There was a really hot guy looking around after turning on his phone and checking the time. That couldn't be him. We met eye contact, and then he waved at me. I couldn't believe my eyes. He had an incredible jawline, messy brown hair, and brown eyes. He looked like he was in amazing shape. "Are you Addison?" he finally asked with a chuckle. He noticed that I was staring. Shit.
"Yeah, I am. Are you my tutor?" At this point, he picked up his things and began to walk over to my table.
"That would be me. I'm Ethan. Ethan Dolan."
