Left Alone

A knock was what woke Taemin up, his face still snuggled up on the soft fabric of the dark blue silk mattress of his bed. His eyes stings, slowly adjusting to the slightly bright room.

Baekhyun waltz through the door, a tray of food in hand. It's a rare occasion now for him to do this since Kai came back and finally owned up to the job of taking care of the mortal. So it really confuses Taemin's still not yet fully awake mind to see the pretty vamp.

"Where's Kai?" Was the first words that came out from him, his morning voice breaking the silence of the room.

"Out. Doing errands." Baekhyun smiles, placing the tray on the bedside table as Taemin sits up, leaning on the wooden headboard. The pretty vampire was too cheery for his liking, how can the vampire do that, unlike the human that just woken up that should feel refresh, instead Taemin feels like a grumpy old man.

Taemin didn't ask anymore, still too sleepy to really focus on anything other than keeping his eyes open. So he starts his breakfast instead, maybe food can help him to be as cheery as Baekhyun.

"We're going out for a while", the vampire starts. "It's an order from Kris that we have to learn something new outside once every month and we think you'll be safer here than going out with us. I'm sorry but you have to stay here." Baekhyun pouts a little at Taemin, giving him a guilty look of a puppy that Taemin can't really disagree to so he just nod, his mouth was preoccupied with scrambled eggs to say anything.

"Don't worry, we'll put protection in the castle so no one can come in other than the members of the coven, just don't go wandering outside. You'll have no protection once you're out." Baekhyun keeps blabbering on rules even after the food was gone, he insisted on staying for a while to keep the human company and to make up for the time that they'll be gone.

And Taemin is thankful for that, though he can't wait for them to leave. He just wants to be alone, maybe sleep a little more and explore the castle after or read all the books he like in the library that Sehun won't let Taemin touch, let alone read while the young vampire was on guard so it's his only chance.

After an hour or so of Baekhyun hanging out with him in his room, Kris came in to fetch the pretty vamp followed by the other members of the coven. Kris giving orders and rules before they said goodbye with a long hug from Tao, a simple nod from Sehun and Baekhyun acting like an overly protective mother as the vamp gave a lot of reminders that Taemin didn't even tried to remember.

A few hours passed, after three books and liters of tea, Taemin was bored and tired from reading and sitting in the library. His bladder was full and his ass and legs felt so numb for sitting so long. He made a trip to the loo and decided to explore the castle like he originally planned earlier.

Walking down similar hallways, Taemin didn't find much interesting things or place inside, though he found where each of the vampire's rooms were so that's something.

Taemin continued to walk down the hall before he stopped infront of a double door, its knob covered in rust and dust but it looks the same as all the doors in the castle. It's the last door he haven't checked yet. He turned the knob, surprised that it wasn't lock like the majority of the doors were.

He pushed the door open, revealing a dim room. It looks like a storage room with broken chairs and random things and boxes. A few covered paintings hanging on the wall or just placed on the floor, collecting dust. Everything's covered with dust.

Taemin walks in, a torch in hand making the room a bit more illuminated. He goes through the boxes, seeing nothing but papers and old, broken things.

A covered frame on the floor caught the mortal's eyes, the cover was half way off, it looks like a family photo or painting in that case, figuring that cameras weren't invented yet at the time it was made.

Taemin pulled off the dusty cloth, revealing what he have guessed, a family portrait. It looks real and creepy, like if you look closer you will see their eyes move. There are seven people in the painting, their black eyes felt like their looking through Taemin's soul.

He recognized some of them, almost all of them and it finally clicked on him that it's a painting of the coven. There's Kris in between Tao and a short, pale man he doesn't know who but he have seen that face in one of the vampire's room, framed and placed on the bedside table, probably Kris'.

They're sitting in a fancy, gothic looking sofa with the others. Baekhyun, Sehun then Kai, but there's another boy, no it's a man that he also doesn't recognize nor ever seen before, not in paintings or photographs. The man has a pale white skin like the others, his heart shaped lips were so pink, he has big eyes and a bit of a chubby cheeks. Over all, he looked so cute and harmless. The kind of cute you can categorized with puppies and kittens.

Him and Kai was holding each other's hands in the painting, a smile painted on each others lips. Taemin felt a painful tug in his chest at the sight. They look genuinely happy despite the creepy mood of the picture.

Who is this guy? Why is he holding Kai's hand? Why do I feel this painful tugs in my chest? Taemin's mind was buzzing. His chest aching. His grip on the torch tightened. It's like the longer he stared at the painting the wider their smiles seems to stretch, their hold on each other seems to get tighter, the more pain Taemin felt. But he can't take his eyes away from them. And the more he looks at those big, doe eyes the more he can see how soulless they were. Taemin got a feeling that despite his angel like appearance, something's not quite right with him.

"Taemin!" The call of his name took him out of his head. His eyes averting from the painting, yet he can still feel those doe eyes watching him as he exit the room.
