Prologue

"Her mate's in new York Lestat. Although he isn't what he may seem" Layela mumbled, casting her eyes downwards so as to not meet her king's eyes.

"Layela what is it? You've been family for so long, Aylaxe is practically your daughter, tell us what's wrong."

Lestat looked at the witch hopefully. 10 years she served him, 10 years and he had never seen her so anxious.

"Layela tell me" Lestat pleaded.

"The throne's in danger lestat. Blood will be spilt in fighting for the throne. Princess Aylaxe is in danger." Layela concluded.

"Layela please don't tell me what I think it is."

Layela sensed his thoughts immediately.

"It is my liege. Unfortunately its exactly what you think it is!"

Chapter 1

Have you ever wondered why opposites attract? ever wondered how you can have the same blood but act so differently? There is not a day that goes by without me wondering the same thing.

My name is Ayla Drakova. Ayla being short for Aylaxe Leonardo De Costa Drakova. I am the current heir to the throne for my family. My parents, Lestat and Anna Drakova, are the current rulers of our kind. And what is our kind you may ask. we are known as many different things, some call us noapte pietoni meaning night walkers, where are others call us ingerii de noapte meaning angels of the night. we regard ourselves as immortals. Although when our family is addressed, we are often called sange regal meaning royal blood.

My parents bore 4 children, Myself, My twin brother Maximus and my two younger brothers, Nicholas and Viktor. You may wonder why i am the next heir to the throne and not Maximus. well tradition states that in our kind the first born, whether its a girl or a boy, is the first heir to the throne. Therefore me being the oldest by 2 minutes, duty call to which i have no choice but to deliver.

Our kind are not vampires, nor are we witches or werewolves, although our features are similar to all. As well as eating food, our vital needs are to survive from drinking blood. Unlike vampires, the sun doesn't harm us, although it makes us weak. Unfortunately for us we are not as fast or strong as normal vampires, however training makes us stronger than normal human beings or other night creatures as such. each one of our kind posses a certain gift. I can see the future and the past, whereas my twin can only see the future. Nicholas has the ability to produce fire and Viktor can turn anything into ice. So you can imagine how heated things can get when Nicholas and Viktor have an argument.
