Lady Liberty- a poem

I see myself as an eagle strong

soaring over the skies and dancing with clouds

I see myself as the bell in the steeple

pealing clear, strong, and bright through the warm summers day

I see myself as a fairy or sprite

dancing past waterfalls as I weave silver webs

I see myself as a bird in the trees

being free and in song, washing all pain away

I see myself as Lady Liberty

setting hope into hearts for a new dawn and day

But all you can see is the face in the mirror

and turn me away with a wave of your hand

You can only see the exterior level

Ignoring the Beauty tucked inside of me

You can say that I'm nerdy, unpretty, uncool

Just jeer, yell, and scoff, I don't care

all that I need are my books and my knowledge

and of the Beauty tucked down inside me.

I know that I'm Lady Liberty.
