Freak Show: The Ringmaster's Daughter

Tasting Freedom (prologue)

It started back in 1862, that's when they started to revolt and demand freedoms. News was spreading that attacks were taking place, that freaks were escaping. some would say it was true others would disagree, but either way something had to be done. Most performers would never see the world outside there tents and trailers after joining the show. Some would try only to be punished. they were all kept hidden by there ringmasters who all knew that there band of freaks were much more special even more than they appeared.

At last something was done a secret group of ringmasters sent two representatives to talk to the leaders of the world about this dilemma about these revolts. Finally a decision was made. Every year on May 20 all performers of the freak show were allowed to come out. No one was allowed to lay eyes on them in there most vulnerable form: unmasked and nonperforming. The countries believed it would frighten the people to be out on the streets with them and possible harm could come to there citizens. the freaks weren't allowed to look into houses and buildings only walk around the town to see how things might have changed and at the break of dawn all freaks were to be back in there tent or killed.

The freaks had choice on weather or not they wanted to be masked. Most got defensive and said no to the idea, but others were cautious and weary to be without there makeup and mask and took no risk in keeping it on. it went on like this anyone caught trying to observe would be taken care of by whoever they saw and the freaks were encouraged by there ringmasters to kill. They feared if people saw someone who was unmasked they would start to have sympathy and see the freak as a person which was unacceptable in there books.

So it went like this every year on may 20 people would lock up at 9:50 and they would come out and though there were people and freaks who broke the rules and were punished and things would seem to somehow go "missing" the next day no one questioned it out of fear of having to face the aliens, the strangers, the things not of this world, the freaks.
