"Dana if you don't get a move on you're gonna be late" I lifted my head off of my pillow to hear my mum shouting up the stairs. I looked at the clock that sat on the table next to my bed. It read 7:47 in bright red square numbers. I knew I had to get up and get ready but I couldn't face starting at a new school. Not again.

 16.

I'd been to 16 schools before this, and each time it had just gotten worse. I never even bothered to make friends at my previous schools because I knew that I’d be moving again within a couple of month. I slowly got out of bed, walked over to my dock and pressed play.

I had less than twenty minutes to be ready and be downstairs waiting for my mum to drop me off. Starting at a new school meant I had to be there early to get my papers and paired up with someone who didn't want to show me around. I knew the drill.

I quickly put on a pair of skinny jeans, a vest top and my leather jacket, shoved my hair into a messy bun and ran downstairs.

"Where are my shoes?"

"Over there by the fridge hun" my mum said without glancing up at me.

"Thank you, I'm ready to go now"

"Breakfast"

I put my shoes on, grabbed an apple and smiled at her.

"Good girl, now let’s go"

We both started to walk towards the door

"Oh, don't forget your key. I have an interview at two and I don’t think I’ll be back in time so that means you're either gonna have to walk or catch the bus"

"How far away is my school?"

"It’s a ten minute drive, but you could work it in about thirty"

"Great" I sighed; I wasn't up to doing a marathon today or using public transport

"You’re nearly 17. You’ll be fine"

"We’ll see"

I slammed the door shut and locked it, and then walked over to the car.

"Not long until you'll be driving"

"More like not long until I’ll be crashing"

"Dana" my mum warned me, "try to be a little happier about all of this"

"Be a little happier about starting at my 17th school; be a little happier about being the new kid yet again"

"Dana...”

"No mum it's not fair, I just want a normal life" I cut her off

"Dana let me bloody talk for a minute"

"Fine" I huffed

"We’re gonna be here until you graduate"

"You’ve said that before"

"I mean it this time"

I looked at her; I didn't mean to take it out on her. She was trying her best and I was screwing all her attempts of a happy life up.

"This time we're gonna be happy, I mean it"

"Promise?" I whispered quietly

She took a hold of my hand and brushed my hair out of my face "I promise"

She poked my nose "now lets go or you're gonna be late"

She reversed out of the drive as I put the radio on. We drove in a comfortable silence for the rest of the time we were in the car.
