The multi-storey car park rose high above my small body, standing tall in its place and leaving the buildings surrounding it with a new fear of intimidation. Often being the one with the crazy, mutinous ideas I grabbed his soft pale hand and ran towards the inviting doors of the multi-storey- a quizzical look rose upon his angelic face. I knew that this was to be the last time I would see him for at least six weeks- he was going away for a while to visit his family in New Zealand leaving me in an emersion of confusion.
First flight of stairs. Second flight of stairs. Third flight of stairs… the climb was beginning to feel like a challenge for my fragile body and my small pair of legs, he was still clueless as to why I was bringing him here. Here out of all the places in the world. Some say the beauty of the clean-cut city from above is a phantasm and I wanted to see that beauty with him before he left.
Despite the acrid smell of alcohol and urinated walls the walk to the top of the foreboding building seemed to be almost enjoyable- on his back. Muscular arms had whisked me up, the innocent laugh of love and humour sprawled into one- apparently my moaning had become too much and he had wanted nothing more but for me to stop and the nicest way of telling me was to whisk me onto his back, I couldn’t complain. Letting my head rest into his soft, white shirt I took in his warm sent of vanilla- it subsided the dank smell of the flight of stairs. That’s what I loved about him, despite my endless crazy ideas and my constant consistency of secrecy he still cared about me, he didn’t even have to tell me. I could tell by the way he held me in his muscular arms, the arms that could potentially make or break someone but with me he acts as if I am as fragile as a piece of glued together glass ready to shatter apart at any point.
Peering ahead of myself I could see the peeks of sunlight slicing through the slits of the door ahead of me, with a small fall to the ground I looked into his sky-blue eyes and innocently giggled strutting of towards the door to heaven leaving him with the smile that could light anyone's day. I placed my hand on the handle to keep up the anticipation of my secrecy as well as the sheer amusement of myself as I knew that he wanted to know why I had bought him up here- he was possibly the most impatient person I’d ever met. He stepped forward staring at me with the adoration that he had always done, I placed my free hand upon his face, the other still holding onto the handle.
My hand lay there as we both watched each other in anticipation, the feeling of implacability rose in my stomach. Devious as I was I desired for his soft lips on mine as much as he did but as soon as he leant forward to kiss me I burst into a fit of giggles and pushed the handle down letting the light seep into corridors.
Running out onto the vast space of freedom I let my arms rise up, the rays of sunlight splashing onto my face and the soft, deep voice of his own filled my body telling me how beautiful it was up here. He were right- this place was like a phantasm. It wasn’t like anything I’d ever seen before, the world was almost laid before us like laying a dogs bowl before his hungry eyes. We walked hand in hand towards the edge- just me and him against the world.
The view was spectacular, the emersion of redish-orange sunlight behind the mountains of buildings seemed to kiss the calmness in the sky, the flock of birds flying to their next destination- their angelic wings flapping widely. The single, white feather of one had come loose and was gently spinning and twirling to the ground- bringing life to even the emptiest places.
“It’s beautiful” he let out with a look of innocence on his face, he grabbed my hand within his own gently squeezing it as he had always done.
“Our place. This is our place.” I muttered quitely and I got a nod of agreement. He watched me like I was the only person left in the world, watching with pure contentment. Turning my small, fragile body towards his muscular self proved to be very easy, what wasn’t so easy was the spell we were put under when we were so caught up in each others wild thoughts. Each others glistening eyes full of love and happiness.
Leaning forward he cupped my face with his large hands with so much fragility, the gentle hawking of birds flying past us. His lips touched mine for the first time which seemed like too many centuries, the passionate kiss almost let off sparks of emotion- that’s when he new he loved this girl more than he had loved anyone else. The horizon before them had brightened up to show the world that now, this moment of exhilirating passion and love was all that mattered.
That’s when they knew that this memory was something of a special one; that they were to be everlasting no matter where they were in this bleak world.
You could feel the buzz of love.
