I woke up to the sweet smell of pancakes, something I haven't had for a long time. I sat up and yawned softly before going downstairs.
Thomas was cooking the batter and scurrying around the kitchen. It was kinda funny watching his fluffy black hair bounce around while he ran.
I sat down on a chair.
"So you're a senator?"
"Huh? Oh! Well I used to be. I'm actually starting a business here in Rose Ville. Anyways, you have school today at Rose Ville Academy, so you should shower and get dressed after eating."
"Okay."
~.~.~
I walked out of the house wearing regular jeans, a coat with a blue shirt underneath, and boots.
I started to walk back to town. In town, everything seemed peaceful and quiet. I liked it.
It was nice, until a girl with brown hair with a few orange stripes mixed in bumped into me. She sneered at me.
Now, I never liked girls like her, and I sure didn't like her.
"Watch it, dweeb."
Two people ran to her side, one with long black hair and an angry look in her eyes, and the boy had glasses and a funny hairstyle.
I decided to get up and walk away without saying anything.
There was no way I would want to start any drama right now.
I finally found the school and went into the principal's office.
There was a blonde girl with her hair in a single braid being scolded by a woman.
"Hey Anne, there's a girl who looks new. I think she needs to talk to you." The blonde haired girl said to the principal, named Anne.
"Miss Carstairs, you are excused."
"Oh Anne, it's Emma."
"You are not allowed to call me Anne. Ms. Jennifer is the name you must call me by."
"Okay, Anne." Emma said, then go out of her chair and walked past me to leave. Anne smiled to me.
"Jo, nice to meet you. I'm the principal, Ms. Jennifer."
I smiled to her.
"Hi um.... So what are my classes?"
"You have one class, besides two electives and P.E., we just try to stick with one teacher for each student. Want me to walk you to your class?"
"Yes please."
~.~.~
So I guess students had to come early and wait inside their classrooms ten minutes or so before their teacher came. I sat next to Emma, who was picking a fight with the girl I encountered earlier.
"Excuse me? What the hell did you say to me, dork?"
"Nothing. Just that you look like a rotten pumpkin, sweetie."
The sarcasm in the way she said 'sweetie' made a shiver go down my spine.
"You just crossed the line, bit-"
"Stop it!" I yelled, making everyone look at me.
That's just great for me.
The girl looked at me fiercely. "And just who do you think you are?"
"I...." Oh god, everyone was staring. The crippling anxiety and regret were starting to kick in.
"I'm Jo. My uncle is Thomas Jefferson, a senator."
A bunch of kids started to whisper. It was weird I felt so scared of these kids, but not of my old friends and kids I used to go to school with.
"Um.... My dads are wealthy businessman... Um..." I added, wondering why I mentioned him first, instead of my dads.
