*narrative pov.

the 22 year old carefully slotted the disk in and made her way to the couch with the remote control. after hesitating for a mere second, she pressed the 'play' button.

an image of the guy that she knew so well appeared on the screen. 

"hey em," he gave a tiny wave and smiled. "are you eating all three meals? what did the doctor say during your yearly health check up? did you tell him about your persistent cough?"

she subconsciously shook her head.

and as if he could see that, he continued, "you have to, you know. stubborn girl, tsk."

he exhaled slowly and bit his lips, gaze concentrated on the ground. "if you're watching this now, i'm probably gone. and i'm really, really sorry for that. i'm sorry for leaving you alone, i'm sorry for everything."

her forehead crinkled as she swallowed the sobs back. the letter that he left was still vivid in her mind. the letter that described what he did as a child. she didn't even know when he wrote that ; she couldn't even be there for him when he needed her the most. fuck, she wasn't even aware that he was suffering.

"i'm sorry for being a monster, em."

"you have nothing to be sorry for, idiot. nothing, absolutely nothing." she whispered to the screen bitterly, her eyes heating up. she held the tears back and listened on.

"you deserve so much better, so go ahead and find the prince you thought you found in me. thank you for the coat when we first met ; it has kept me warm all this while. it really has." he was now looking at the camera properly. the gaze that she had missed so much. the face that she had always wanted to caress. 

she lowered her head, blocking out the voice from the speakers that soon became mumbles as thoughts swarmed her.

the tears refused to stop.
