Song of the Chapter: "Believe You Me" by Jaime Preciado
Kellin was called out of breakfast the next morning by the warden himself. To say the very least, Cellblock D was anxious to find out what was going on with him. When Kellin rejoined us at the table, we all practically pounced on him with questions.
"Where did he take you? Did he hurt you?" I asked immediately, flashing back to that day on which Warden Ashby singled Kellin out as his personal punching bag. Kellin shook his head in response.
"Was he mad about something?" Jesse questioned. Kellin shook his head again and jumped in with the explanation before our rapid-fire interrogation could continue.
"Warden Ashby didn't even really talk to me at all. My lawyer had called here to bring some urgent news and they let me talk to him," Kellin informed us, sparking the curiosity of the entire group.
"What did he say? Are you going free? Did they find something?" Craig inquired, voicing all of our thoughts.
"Not really. They did find some more evidence though, and they've got enough to warrant reasonable grounds for an appeal. Mr. Fish is coming here to talk to me later, and I'm going to court next Tuesday," Kellin informed us proudly.
"That's awesome!" Jeremy congratulated, and we all expressed the same sentiment to him.
"I owe it all to you guys. I never could've afforded the private investigators and things for Mr. Fish without the money and publicity from you," Kellin told us shyly. Under the table, I rested a hand on his thigh. He placed his hand on mine for a heartbeat in response before continuing with the conversation.
"It was our pleasure," Caleb assured him. Spirits lifted, breakfast morphed back into the cheery affair it usually was within Cellblock D. Kellin was happily contributing to the conversation, and that made the rest of the group happy too. Especially me.

It was our block's turn for television privileges that night, one of the very few rewards that Ashby hadn't taken from us yet aside from blocking any channel that might provide us with news about Kellin's investigation. The lights in the alcove with the TV set were dimmed and the fuzzy screen played some medical mystery show through the static. All the guys except for Kellin and me were enraptured by the program, but I was far more interested in the beautiful boy sitting next to me. We were seated in the very back of the alcove, leaning against the cinder block wall. I had my arm wrapped around his waist and he cuddled into me sweetly.
"I'm really glad they're letting you appeal," I murmured in his ear softly. Kellin smiled up at me.
"Me too. I'm a little nervous though. I hated the first court date so much. It's like everyone in the room is out to get you, and I'm not very good at talking in front of people anyway," Kellin explained. I squeezed his hips playfully and he jumped slightly, clearly ticklish. I kissed his cheek gently.
"You'll be great, darling. You're charming, you're sweet, and everyone in that courtroom is going to realize that as soon as you walk in," I consoled him truthfully. Kellin shifted next to me.
"I guess so. I'm just really afraid they still won't believe me. They didn't before. How do I know that they'll believe the truth now?"
"They will. There's new evidence, and Matty and Fish will be there to help you. Just tell the truth and everything will turn out fine. They'll believe you," I assured him. Kellin tilted his face up and touched his lips to mine. I returned his shy kiss with a more confident one, caressing his soft cheek gently as we kissed. I brushed my tongue against his bottom lip and he opened his mouth, letting my tongue play with his. It was of course in that moment that Jesse decided to turn around from his position at the front of the darkened alcove.
