"Calypso!" My mom's distant voice called to me as I stormed away.

How could she do this to me?! She just had to pick one of the most important days of my life to have my loser "dad" show up out of nowhere? And to do what? Pretend like he supported me this whole time? That he was proud of how I've grown and what I've accomplished? Or was it to claim me as his daughter just to get money out of me and my mother?

No.

I was not about to let some good for nothing man waltz his way into my life as if he had the right to. Nor was I about to let him even speak to me or even get near me.

"What the hell?!" Rosalie shrieked in shock and anger as she managed to catch up with my quick pace.

I shook my head as I scanned the beach for the competitors' tent in order to gear up for the competition. It wasn't too hard to spot, thankfully. It was a decent sized coral tent with security around it. The judges' tables was set up on the right side of it. It wasn't anything huge or extravagant compared to everything else in this small, rich town, which I liked.

"I don't even want to talk about it." I grumbled, feeling my blood boil with every thought I had about my dead beat father watching me surf today. He had only caused heartache and pain for my mother throughout her entire life! I mean, I guess she's at fault, too, if she's been trying to reach out to him this entire time without me knowing... She always did have a hard time letting go of him and this was probably the freaking reason why.

"Well, you're going to have to because you won't be able to surf if you don't get this off your chest." Rosalie demanded sharply, pulling out her tough girl side on me.

I came to a stop at a random part of the beach and took in a deep sigh, rubbing my face before running my fingers through my loose, blonde hair.

"What am I supposed to say, Rose? This is a whole lot to process in freaking twenty minutes!" I said, my voice raised and aggravated. I didn't care who saw me like this. Mom was probably flipping out this second seeing how my public image would start to look terrible due to me emotional state right now, but she was the one who caused it in the first place! Good grief, you'd think that you'd save this kind of news for after the competition at least!

"Yeah, I'm full well aware of the time crunch, Cy," she spat back before calming her tone. "But stewing about it isn't going to help either. What would you prefer to happen right now? Meet the guy who abandoned your pregnant mother in her greatest time of need and support or vent to me about how terrible of a person he is?"

"I'd obviously chose the second option," I said, giving her a pointed look. "I just don't want to think about this right now. I'm not sure if even venting on the spot would help at all. I'm already feeling way too worked up about it, anyways. I'm just hoping that getting out on the water will help to clear my thoughts..."

She let out a small laugh,"Yeah, I forget that helps you, too. What can I say, Cy? You're just a creature of habit!"

A small laugh escaped my pressed lips,"You said that earlier."

No matter what the situation was, she could always get me to smile. I didn't deserve someone like her in my life, but here she was anyways like a blessing sent from heaven!

"Am I wrong?" She joked, giving me a gentle shove with her shoulder.

I let out one more sigh before picking up my feet again and heading back towards the competitors' tent.

"Well, what will you do while we're waiting for the competition to start? No friends or family are allowed in the tent this time," I asked her, readjusting the surfboard I held under my right arm.
