I recently landed in Japan to go into this foreign student exchange program where I can go to college here for free, because I've made good grades and did really well on the SAT's and entrance exam. I already have my own place here even though it's a small apartment. I've always wanted to come to this country, and now I can cross it off my bucket list. I was ready to start my new life here. After the taxi dropped me off near my apartment, I was so excited that I spent awhile looking at the exterior of the place I will live in. I took out my key, and unlocked the door, eager to look inside my very first apartment. I opened the door to be welcomed by a small and very cute room. The people that are involved in the program told me that they will have everything ready for me in my home, they weren't kidding. I looked around in all the rooms: The living room, the bathroom, the bedroom, and then the kitchen. They had all the necessities provided for me that I'm glad I didn't have to go shopping for right away. On the counter, I found a gift basket full of sweets and some money to last me at least a month. There was also a little note written on cute stationery. 'We hope you enjoy your time here, Ms. Kendall!' People in this country are so nice and thoughtful.
I looked at the time and noticed that it was around lunch time already. Since it's my first day here, I could treat myself to go out to eat. I don't feel like leaving my cute little apartment yet, but at the same time, it's the perfect opportunity to sightseeing when I can. Making my decision, I grabbed my side purse and locked the front door.
I arrived at the huge crosswalk that I always see in pictures, I believe it's called the Shibuya crossing. To think to be here in person makes me feel nervous and excited all at once. I got a map from the itinerary station, and was deciding where to go. I did say that it was lunch and I feel a little bit hungry, so I need to find a place to eat first. I noticed that there was a cafe not to far from here, so I decided to go there.
I entered the cafe where the scent of fresh bread welcomed me. I was seated at a table and looked through the menu. A club sandwich doesn't sound half so I might just get that. I felt someone sit across from at my table. "What's a cute girl like you doing here by herself?" I looked up from the menu, and saw that it was a guy with light brown hair. The first day here and I'm already being flirted with? "You're not from around here, are you? Where're you from?"
I don't even know the guy, but for some reason it feels like I can trust him. "I came from America and just moved here today."
"Whoa! For real?! Maybe I can show you around sometime." He said with a wink. Yup, he's definitely flirting with me. I'm not sure whether to be flattered or not since he seems like the type to do this to every girl he sees. "So, what's your name, cutie?"
"It's... Kendall."
"Kendall, huh? The name's Sora. If you ever need comfort, you can call me and I'll come running to you."
"Uh... Thank you for the offer, but I don't think I'll be needing that."
"Jeez... I can't believe I got turned down so easily. Then... Can I eat with you?"
"Sure." I don't want to be mean, he seems like a nice guy despite his playboy nature. So I ended up having company for lunch. We just had small talk... And more flirting coming from him. This guy sure can eat a lot, he already ate six burgers and it hasn't even been 10 minutes.
When I was done with my club sandwich, I noticed that his demeanor changed. He looked serious about something. It's like he was eyeing somebody outside of the cafe it seems. When he looked over at me, he was back to himself that I met the first time. "You don't have to worry, this one's on me." He got out some money and placed it on the table.
How nice of him, but I feel bad. But then I know he's going to be like, 'Don't worry about it!' I'm grateful for him doing that. "Thank you very much." He slid a piece of paper towards me.
