Hey guys, so while I have some time I thought I'd upload the first chapter to the story. This is just kind of an introduction to Sophia's current life, in the present. Once again, I would really love some feedback so I know if I should continue with this or not, so please comment / vote or even become a fan if you wish - I will return! Thank you so much. - Charlotte<3
Chapter 1 "Life"
[Present day]
Sophia's POV
My alarm buzzed, letting me know that it was time to get out of my comfy bed and face the real world. Ugh. I slammed my hand down to switch off the increasingly irritating buzzing sound and checked the screen of my BlackBerry for messages. (1) unread. My heart fluttered, I was hoping to hear from Carter, my boyfriend. He'd just got back from America, so today would be the first time I'd see him in over a month. I tapped in my passcode and opened the message.
Avery Stevenson:
Morning babe, meet me outside the school gates, I have something to tell you! xxxx
Okay so, it wasnt from who I wanted it to be from, but it was still Avery - one of my best friends. We'd been inseperable since we were 8 years old, when we moved onto the same street as Avery's family. After my parents death, I'd been living in a carehome up until I was 7, when I was adopted by the Dawson family - one of the wealthiest families in West London. Pretty lucky, huh? But I didn't feel that way. I still resented the world for taking away my real parents, nothing could replace them. I was also an only child, so I had to go through my childhood alone. I had to admit though, the Dawsons were amazing. Maria and Alexander already had a daughter, Ella, when they adopted me, who happens to be 2 years older than me. We actually get along really well, almost like real sisters. In fact, you could say that Ella is like the sister I never had. Even though I am growing to love this family, I still can't bring myself to call Maria my mum, or Alexander my dad. I just can't do that.
"Sophia! Are you up yet?" Maria called up the stairs.
"Yeah.." I replied, clearing my throat, before I walked lazily into the bathroom to shower.
Half an hour later, and I was sitting in front of my full length mirror, pulling my long dark brown hair out of its knotted ponytail. Sighing, I straightened it all out, so it was poker straight, then set to work on my make up. Rimming my light brown eyes with black liquid liner, I dramatically winged it out at the sides to create the cat eye effect. I'd been doing that for as a long as I could remember; Ella always envied how I was quite creative with my make up. As for my face, I lightly applied concealer to my permanent under eye circles. Thankfully, I was blessed with naturally flawless skin. Lastly, I coloured my lips in a deep red, neatly going around the edges to perfect the outline. When I was satisfied with my work, I took one last look at myself in the mirror. Luckily, I didn't hate the way I looked - I suppose I would be classed as pretty, my shiny dark hair fell to my just above my waist, and my eyes changed from brown to gold, depending on the light.
"Sophia! School starts in 10 minutes, hurry up! And Ella, you have to be at work for...oh, about 5 minutes ago." Maria called again from downstairs. I vaguely heard Ella yell, "Shit!" before I panicked and threw on the first pieces of clothing I could find, which happened to be thick black leggings and a deep red knit one shouldered top. Grabbing my phone and schoolbag, I practically flew down the stairs and shoved on my heeled boots. "Bye Maria!" I called, throwing myself out of the door and running all the way to school in my heels, earning myself some strange looks from the early morning dog walkers.
Precisely 8 minutes later I panted my way to the front of the school gates, where I could see Avery casually standing, one foot against the wall. Her long blonde hair fell in waves, and she was dressed in high waisted shorts and tights, with a a white blouse. Wait, were those my shorts?
"SOPH! Oh my god, I have to tell you about what happened with Caleb..." she began excitedly. I laughed, "Come on then, you can tell me while we run to form."
----
I waltzed into English Lit occupying my usual seat in the back corner of the room, while pulling out my iPod. Putting my feet up on the empty chair next to me, I scattered my textbooks on the desk and flicked my finger across the screen to choose a song. Eventually, I settled for Pass At Me by Timbaland, even though I'd been listening to this song on repeat for the past 2 weeks...After a while, the sound of other girls whispering excitedly caught my attention.
"Oh my gosh..he is SO hot!"
"Mmhmm..."
"Wow."
What the hell were they going on about? I looked up just in time to see the most gorgeous boy I had ever seen, walking over to the only empty seat in the room, which happened to be next to me. He was pretty tall, athletic looking but not overly muscly - just the right amount, oh yes. As he walked he flipped his light brown hair out of his dark brown eyes, smirking when he saw a few of the girls eyes widen as he did so. His cheekbones were defined and his jawline perfectly chiselled - this guy could give all the top male models a run for their money. There was not a single flaw in his perfect face, or even his perfect body.
He stopped by the desk and smiled at me, motioning for me to move my feet. It took me a while to realise that my mouth was hanging open, gawping at his gorgeousness. Shit, I quickly snapped my mouth shut and removed my feet from the chair, allowing him to sit down. He slid into the seat and a small mist of his aftershave drifted towards me, which of course, smelt just as beautiful as he looked. Damn, Sophia, you have a boyfriend, remember? The one that you are supposed to be meeting after school! Oh yeah. I smiled casually at the new guy and looked intently at the board apon which the teacher was currently writing on.
"Hey, I'm Chase." The new guy leant over to me and whispered. Gosh he was nice.
"..I'm Sophia" I replied airily, smiling at him quickly before beginning to write notes down from the board, trying to distract myself from the amazing boy next to me.
"So, I was wondering-"
"Chase Matthews and Sophia Riley, be QUIET!" Mr Fieldman shouted, throwing the pen down on the desk in exasperation. Several of the girls turned around to glare at me, before smiling angelically at Chase. Oh please. Just as everyone else turned back around, my phone buzzed. I checked the screen and opened the message.
(1) New message
Carter Jackson:
Hey baby, I've missed you so much. I'll come by your house later to pick you up. Love you xxxx
I smiled to myself, before realising that Chase was leaning over to me ever so slightly, with an unreadable expression on his face.
"Are you alright?" I asked him, confused.
"Yeah, I'm fine.." he answered, smiling sweetly again before pretending to be extremely interested in what Mr Fieldman was saying.
I shrugged internally, and began to tap out a reply to Carter.
