What if?

Chapter Three: Waiting

It has been about 3 hours, and Kensi was still in surgery. Nobody left the room, and everyone was getting really hungry.

"Hetty?" Nell said.

"Yes, Ms. Jones?"

"I'm starving, and I've heard people's stomachs growling. I'm going to go hit up the taco truck around the corner," she looked at everyone, "and I'll get some for everyone. My treat." She said.

"Thanks Nell," Eric joyfully said, "I'll go with you."

"Ok!" Nell and Eric headed out, and got in Nell's car. They drove to the closest taco truck, and ordered 16 tacos. 2 for each person. They drove back, and walked in the waiting room. Kensi was still in surgery.

"Come and get em'" Eric said. They passed out two tacos to everyone, and then sat down, to eat theirs. Deeks was in a corner, and was silent. He didn't eat.

"Deeks. You need to eat." Sam stated.

"I'm not hungry."

"Deeks. If Kensi were here, you would be eating. You need to eat, keep your health." Callen said.

"Why can't you all understand that I'm not hungry." Just then, his stomach growled, really loud.

"Mr. Deeks. Your stomach disagrees, eat a taco." Hetty said.

"Fine." Deeks chowed down the two tacos, and went to a vending machine to get water. Right then, he turned around with his water, and saw Kensi. Laying on a movable hospital bed, she was still unconscious. She had many cuts on her face, and arms. Probably more on parts underneath the bed sheet. They took her to intensive care unit, and the team was allowed to go to the intensive care unit waiting room. Deeks stood up, and saw the nurses hooking Kensi up to A LOT of machines. Then, she was able to take family members only.

"What? This is bullcrap." Deeks yelled. "Kensi is partner, and I'm not allowed to see her?"

"I'm so sorry, Martin. Tomorrow if she is stable, may friends see her." Deeks looked down at his watch, 2 pm. Deeks just sat down. Ms. Feldman walked into the room, and saw her daughter. Cut, bruised, and hooked up to more machines than she could count. Ms. Feldman talked to a nurse, then walked out of the room. She didn't say anything, and sat down next to Deeks.

"Deeks." Ms. Feldman said.

"Yes?"

"I talked to a nurse, about you getting to see Kensi." He looked up.

"Really? You did that for me?"

"Deeks," she said, taking his hands, "I see the way you look at her, my daughter. If you have things you need to say to her, then, you need to say it."

"What if she doesn't like me like that?"

"Deeks. In the 4 years, that I've known you, I have never seen my daughter more happy with anyone. She loves you, even if it doesn't seem like it, she does. And the nurse said that you can see her."

"Thank you, Ms. Feldman." Deeks hugged her, and then walked in the room to see Kensi.

"Kensi?" He said softly. She laid there, no response. He look he right hand, hooked up to ivs and all, and kissed it, lightly. Callen and Sam were watching from the outside,

"He really likes her." Callen said.

"No," Sam replied, "he's in love with her." Callen and Sam moved closer, practically they were leaning against the ICU door, so they could hear what Deeks was saying.

Deeks sat in the chair next to the bed, and folded his hands together.

"Listen, Kensi." He said softly, "Ever since we first met at that MMA gym, I knew it was you. I knew I was in love with you, as soon as we locked eyes. That day that we kissed, in the desert, it felt right. Kensi, I don't know if you feel the same way, but if you do, when you wake up, and are free to go, we're going to go on a vacation. Far away from LA, and spend some time together. But, if you don't. It's ok. I understand, I probably wouldn't wanna spend life with a goofy guy like me, Kensi. I love you." Deeks stood up, kissed her forehead, and started to leave. He saw Callen and Sam standing there.

"Did you hear that?"

"It was beautiful, Deeks." Sam said.

"She isn't awake, so she didn't hear any of it. It's easier to say when she's asleep."

"Deeks, it's gonna hurt, but it's gonna hurt, because it matters." Callen said. Deeks said nothing.

"Deeks, the rest of us are gonna leave. You should be here if she wakes up tonight."

"Yea, ok. Bye guys." Deeks walked back into her room, and sat down in the chair, hoping that she would wake up.
