Chloe's Pov

"What?! What happened, tell us everything" Hunter said on the other end. 

I try to catch my breath and explain. "We encountered one. I started to ask him why they were here and they said they've been watching us for a while and they're concerned about some of what they've seen. I asked what they meant and they said our powers could become a threat to a human world and they needed to find a way to neutralize our abilities before they became a threat. 

But before we could try to reason with them, Rose's powers went haywire and her bat wings came out and she must've scared the human, cause he just... he just fired at Rose but Shelby was in the way and... And now she's hit" my voice struggled to go on at the end. 

Hunter said they understood and that they would follow their instructions. He was sure to include to tell him if we needed anything. 

I thanked him and hung up the phone, then quickly bent on my knees to Shelby's level. 

"You okay, Shelbs?" I tried to give her some space, even though my maternal instincts were making me want to hold her till she's better. 

"I'm alright. It barely grazed me" she lied with a smile, nursing the wound on her side. 

Brittly pulled off her crop top (Still wearing a tank top underneath, chill out boys) and tore a piece off. She folded it carefully and dabbed as much blood off of the wound as she could. 

Shelby sucked air in between her teeth in a wince, and arched her back, caught off guard by the pain. 

"Sorry. I just wanted to clear it up a little so your job will be easier..." Brittly said quietly and folded her hands innocently in her lap. 

Shelby nods with a sigh, "I know. Thank you. You guys don't have to stay with me while I heal it up.." she lifts her hand to her blood stained side and it glows with a slight yellowish tone as she works her magic. 

"We'll stay with you. But we need to figure out what to do..." Brittly began pacing back and forth. 

"I still think we should just try to talk to them.. They only fired because Rose scared him." Chloe tried to reason. 

Michael scoffed, "They fired at us because we're freaks. And we're not gonna find a cure. So what we need to do is just get out of this town". 

"No," Brittly objected, "We can't leave. There are too many of us to be able to sneak out safely. We have to stick in packs.". 

"I agree with Brittly, it's safer to stay together" Shelby added. 

Michael turned to Rose, who was chewing her nails. "What about you, what do you think?"

Rose widened her eyes and slowly lifted her shoulders, "I-I don't know, whatever everyone else thinks...". 

Michael groaned and crossed his arms. 

"Forget that for now, the sun is setting, we should really find somewhere safe to stay." I tried to break up the tension. "We should probably head North towards the wall" I pointed Northwards and started walking backwards, hoping the rest would follow. 

They agreed heading North was alright, and Brittly and Michael helped Shelby walk stably. 

Her wound was looking better every second, thankfully. But using her powers made her so exhausted she had to be helped around.

"Alright, everyone in" I ushered everyone down the subway stairs and into the long corridor.
