Sarah White's Pov

"Here they come." Eli whispered, pointing below him.

I crawled forward towards the window of the tall building Eli and I had been hiding out in, and peeked out.

There were 7 humans in black uniforms, huddled together as they walked with weapons ready.

I looked at Eli, who gave me a nod of approval. Rubbing my hands together, I created a firm snowball and gripped it tight. I leaned out the window just enough to fit my arm out, and then threw it across the alley to get their attention.

As they turned towards the noise, Eli moved a steady hand up, manipulating the metal sewer cover off the road behind the humans, and then thrusting it at their feet like a bowling ball to pins.

They stumbled to the ground, caught completely off guard, and some groaning with injuries.

"Go." Eli ordered before we both jumped down from the building.

I created a snowy slope for us to slide down safely before coming up behind the humans.

Eli tensed his hands and pushed his arms forward, forcing the weapons away from them, and I followed it with freezing their bodies to the ground. I kept freezing and freezing until Eli put his hand on my shoulder.

"Hey, stop, you're gonna kill them" he pulled at my arm a little bit and I turned towards him,  still freezing.

"It has to be done" I shot back.

Eli's Pov

I looked at the almost lifeless humans and then back at Sarah... This wasn't right. We couldn't just kill them off, there had to be a better way.

The sewer cover was still on the ground from earlier, so I thought quickly and manipulated it off the ground and towards Sarah.

It pressed against her stomach, forcing her backwards towards the wall, and bending to to shape of her body to create a tighter hold.

"What are you doing?! Stop!" she yelled, attempting to wriggle out of it.

I shook my head, "I'm sorry but no one else is dying today..."

The metal held itself to the wall, keeping her there, and I started to pace in an attempt to think of something to do. Surely, as long as they were stuck on the ground, there would be some way we could talk it out.

My thinking was interrupted by a gunshot, and I whipped around to see that one of the men on the ground had managed to reach a gun and shoot Sarah.

My reaction was instantaneous, almost instinctual. I used my manipulation and forced the gun out of his hands and into mine, as I sprung forward and on top of him, bashing his head in with the butt of the gun.

I hit him, and I hit him, and I hit him until I was too out of breath to continue. I calmly stood up off of him and glanced back at Sarah, who was clinging to life against the wall.

I walked towards her and placed my hands on the metal I had forced her to the wall with. As I loosened the metal, Sarah fell forwards onto me and grasped onto the fabric of my shirt.

I supported her with a hug and shook my head, whispering "I'm so sorry" as I slowly set her down on the ground.

She rolled her eyes and smirked her lips to the side, "You couldn't have known. But this is going to keep happening. They heard the gunshot, they'll be coming for you. You have to defend yourself, even if that means taking lives.
