Chapter 2

“Julie!” I shout at her. She jumps startled.

“What’s up Abs?” Julie asks me looking excited by my happiness.

                “I went on a date last night! It was amazing.” I said all in one big breath.

Oh my gosh! Abbey, calm down girl. Breathe, take it slowly. Talk like a normal human being. Not like a VCR that is on fast forward. Deep breathe. In, out, in, out, in, out. Ok, I feel better now. Thank goodness I can make myself feel better.

            Her eyes went wide with shock. “What? Who was it? What is his name? Where is he from? How did you meet him? When did you go out last night?” Julie asks. She is very ecstatic! It’s been a while since I have been out so, she gets excited.

“His name is Derek. He is a senior at Westwood high in the next town over. I met him while I was working.  We went to dinner and then to look out. We only kissed once. It was an amazing kiss. I hope we will have more though. It was really intense. I loved it a lot. He did too.” I said smiling widely.

            “What’s up?” Sam asked coming over to us and kissing Julie hard on the lips.

“Oh, not much. Our girl Abbey went on a date last night.” Julie said smiling. Sam just looks at me with a shocked look on his face. His look screams oh my god! I am so happy for you.

            “Congrats. What is his name?” Sam asks protectively.

“His name is Derek. He and I met when I was at work. He is so sweet. We had an amazing time.” I said smiling sweetly.

            “Awe. How cute Abbey.” Sam said with a big goofy grin on his face.

“Yes. He is so sweet and cute. He has the most amazing smile. I like his eyes a lot.” I said with a smile on my face.

“I am so happy for you baby girl. You deserve a great guy. If he ever breaks your heart, I will be there for you in a heartbeat.” Sam says hugging me with one arm.

It has been a really long time since I have dated. I am a senior in school and I have not dated since my freshman year. Last time I did he assaulted me. It was very scary and sad. He is in jail luckily. I hope he never gets out either. If he does, I hope I am far away from him. I can’t let him find me. Every day and night, I go to bed wondering if I will wake up at all. I get so scared I have to make sure my door is locked at all times. It was very traumatic. I had to go through a lot and I mean a lot, of therapy.

Julie and Sam have always been there for me. Without them, I don’t know what I would do. I love my friends. They will always keep me strong.

            “We should meet him. I want to make sure he is good for you. Please baby girl?” Sam asks me. He looks at me with a pleading look in his eyes.

            “I agree with Sam on this one. We want to make sure he is good for you and not like you know Tuck.” Julie says.

            “Ok. I want you guys to meet him soon.” I say smiling widely.

“We can make it a double date. Like, we could go to the movies. Or, we can see a movie and go to dinner!” Julie says.

“Yes. We will make it a double. Maybe we can even do it this weekend.” Sam says.

                “Julie. Derek is picking me up later. Will you please help me get ready?” I ask her hoping she will.
