They skipped school. Castiel saw no reason to stick around after what happened with the bullies. So they left, the tortured boy and his demon friend wandered around the town, looking at random things.
As they walked around, Castiel noticed that Dean was very... Possessive. He liked to have control over everything, and if anybody looked at Castiel for too long, or in the wrong way, Dean's eyes would flash to black.
Castiel didn't want to face his brother that night, so he used the little money he had to get a motel room. Gabriel would leave for a few weeks the next day, so he only had to stay there for one night.
When Castiel laid down on the shitty bed, he heard Dean sit down and knew that it would become routine for Dean to watch him.
He woke up to the smell of food and sat up, stretching slightly. Dean was sitting at the chair a few feet from the bed. There was a bagel and coffee sitting at the table.
Before Castiel could ask, Dean said, "There was food in the main building. I didn't know what you would want so I just got the most plain thing they had."
Castiel stood up and sat on the table, picking up the coffee and mumbling a thanks.
Dean watched his every move closely. Castiel let his hair fall in front of his face. He wasn't used to so much attention. He was either ignored or hurt by people, never watched over. Even Gabriel forgot he existed sometimes. And his father gave him very unwanted attention.
Castiel felt the long scars on his back stretch slightly as he moved.
Once he finished eating, Castiel stood up and left the motel, Dean following him. They walked back to his house, talking a bit but not very much. Dean kept his eyes trained on Castiel's shirt, as if he knew that his skin was scratched up and mutilated under it.
Gabriel was already gone by the time they reached the house. There was a brief note reminding Castiel to call if something was wrong, the note that he left every time. And Castiel ignored every time.
"So what now?" Dean asked. Castiel shrugged. "I have no idea what friends do. I haven't had one since I was ten."
They ended up just sitting on the couch and talking until Castile fell asleep. His head was rested on Dean's shoulder and he was unconsciously gripping his hand.
Dean looked down at the teen. He hadn't been this close to a human since-
No. He wouldn't think about that. It had almost been six years. That life was in the past now. All that mattered was getting through this year then taking the soul to Hell.
But Dean felt dread when he thought about this boy dying. What the hell was happening to him? He was a demon. He couldn't get caught up in human emotions. He wouldn't let himself.
What the hell have I gotten myself into? Dean thought.
