History class was boring, not that I expected anything else.

The bell rang, a nasal tone, signaling that class was over. Thank God! Time for English. I grouped my books together. I was then confronted by a boy with blonde hair and blue eyes. I'm not going to lie to myself. He was cute.

"Latoya right?" he smiled, showing his dimples.

"Yeah and you are?" I prompted.

"Luke"

I nodded, "Nice meeting you." I tried to be as polite as possible. I tried stepping around him, but he blocked me yet again. 'Oh come on! I have five minutes to get to class!'

"What's your next class?"

A quick glance told me the answer he seek was English. Once this information was repeated, I was also able to slide pass him and leave the room.

He trailed after my form,"So do I, want me to walk you?" Trying to be nice, I accepted the offer. Besides, I had no idea where I was going anyway. 'Change is good. Change is good.'

I entered class and of course, the universe just had to mess with me and place me in the class with the grey eyed demon I had bumped into earlier that morning. He was sitting in the back corner of the class and just to make this situation even better, next to the only available seat.

I handed the teacher my slip. She gave my name a glance over and immediately sent me to sit next to whom I had dubbed 'Mr. Rude Thang.'

"Is this seat taken?" I questioned.

"I dunno? Does it look like if it's taken?" he retorted.

"Well, to me, it looks like your attitude took up the two places."

I thanked God he didn't answer, only snickered and turned away, narrowing his gaze at the window, completely ignoring me. I listened attentively to the teacher, taking notes when appropriate.

I turned to look out the window, only to find him staring at me. "What?!" his gaze was starting to make me feel self-conscious. He chuckled, "Just admiring your ugliness, that's all" His comment hit me like a ton of bricks. 'Lack the emotion'.

"Thanks so much." I muttered dryly

"Hum" I could tell he had to bite his lip to hold back a laugh. Just who did he think he was? "You're quite welcome, in fact, I don't think I've ever seen quite a face like yours." He said, looking at me with a strange look in his eyes.

"Well I see you haven't looked in the mirror for quite some time." I retorted. "I don't know who's been lying to you but you aren't that hot!"

"I'm not 'that' hot". He agreed, "But, you think I'm hot, just not to the extent that you're speaking of."

I remained quiet. He got me there. Just then, the bell rang. I sighed in relief. I walked out of class my sight, blurring.

He actually had be stunned. Not many was ever able to. I usually had a witty comeback for everything. Well, almost everything. His comment on my appearance hadn't really bothered me much. I was used to it. So, why a tear fell down my face, I have no idea.

I was so engrossed in my thoughts, that I didn't even know that I had ran into someone, again. 'Nice one, now I'm going to be considered a klutz'. I apologized, not even bothering to look up.

I supposedly had a free period now so I decided to check out the library. I was going to catch up with some much needed reading.

Cold air washed over me as I entered the library. Rows and rows of books lay before me. I squealed in delight, only to get shushed by the cranky- and obviously going through menopause- librarian. 'If "cliched high school vibe" was what they were going for, they got it.' . Going into the young adults section, I went in search for my favorite romance novels. After looking through shelves for ten minutes, I finally found what I was looking for. Selecting a chair under the air-conditioning vent, I flipped through the pages until I found my favorite part.

"Of all books one could read, Jane Eyre is your choice?" I raised my eyes from my book to see the dark and mysterious 'stranger' standing in front of me.

"Did you want something?" I groaned. I seriously wasn't feeling for this crap right now.

"Nope, the name's James by the way." James, cute name.

"I don't recall asking sweet-cheeks." I said viciously. "Bye now."

He snicked, "Aren't you going to tell me your name?" he said pretending to be hurt.

"Have you nothing better to do that irritate my soul?" I spat at him.

"Nope" he said popping the 'p.'

"Well, would you look at that, you just answered both of our questions simultaneously."

He snicked again "I'll see you around Latoya."

He knew my name, I wasn't surprised. Like I said before, I did transfer in the middle of the school year. Checking my watch, I saw that I was only blessed with ten more minutes. 'That damn boy wasted my precious reading time.' I replaced the book.

Kissing my teeth, I got my books and made my was to my next class. 'Change is good, good is change.' But is also seemed that change was determined to get me in trouble.
