I sprinted towards the door, slipping twice from the speed I was going. The lacking of grips that my slippers had at the sole certainly didn’t help either. My left hand made contact with the door handle, and my right was unlatching the bolts and locks that had been newly put in place at my house. Maybe my parents were a little paranoid after my disappearance.

The door swung open, and my eyes took in the familiar two-some before me. “Meg… Alex?”

Alex grinned, Meg smiling softly at me, her slender arms crossed over her chest. “The one and only,” Alex said. “Why do you look so surprised to see us here? Are we not friends anymore, now that we’re back in the real world?”

Before I even thought about it,  my palm connected with his cheek with a satisfying smack.                 She chuckled lightly, and the sound was like wind chimes. “I’m glad to know you missed me as well.”

“Andrea-“ I started, letting go of her so I could look in her face.

She put her head down and smiled. “Don’t worry about it.”

I let go of her completely, my eyes flicking from Alex to Meg. “What happened-“

“Hailee, Meg told me how guilty you felt,” Alex interjected, and I scowled momentarily from the feeling of being cut off twice in a row. He took my head and rubbed my cheeks softly. “It was none of your fault.”

“Yes it was. You wouldn’t have-“
