Chapter nineteen

"Hailee. Hails. Wake up. Oh, come on."

I scrunched my face up and put a hand in front of my eyes in attempt to block out the imposing light in my eyes.

Unfortunately, the act had no help and I forced myself to roll to my left, away from the distractions from my sweet sleep.

"Hailee. We're never going to get anywhere if you don't wake up."

"Go away," I muttered into the pillow.

"Not for ever," a voice answered.

I stopped breathing. Was that two different voices? One sounded kind of like...

"Alex?" I asked, attempting to pry my eyes open.

A long sigh escaped one of the people in front of me. "No, Hailee. It's Brent."

I turned to hide my face into my pillow. I couldn't let him see me like this. "Go. Away."

"Aw, Hailee, you're going to make me leave too?" a feminine voice asked.

"Meg?" I said into the pillow, propping myself up in my elbows.

"You got it," Meg replied.

I turned my face to where her voice was coming from, and I found myself looking at a gorgeous red-head, her green eyes twinkling in amusement. She was perched on the edge of my bed gracefully. And her pose briefly reminded me of a birds'. "What are you doing here? Why are you sitting on my bed?" I asked, still a little grouchy from being woken up.

"Oh, silly. Brent, Andrea, and I all came here to try to get you up," she said.

"Why? I'm sleeping," I said, enunciating my e's for a little too long.

"Not any more," said a small woman with glasses as she stepped into my view.

"Andrea! I'm so sorry we forgot you! I wanted to-"

"Oh, calm down. It was my own fault," she interjected with a grin.

"Okay..." I said, pursing my lips. I turned back to Meg. "Why do you want me to be with you guys?"

"We have a plan. I mean, Hailee, I know Alex... Died, but we have to go on," she said, smiling half-heartheartedly.

"Yeah, Hailee. It's been two weeks," Brent added, siting down on the other edge of my bed.

"Oh, like if you didn't die, I wouldn't mope around forever?" I said sarcastically, pulling the blankets up to my face.

"I know you would. But it wasn't your fault," he said smoothly.

"Yes it was. He told me, if anything happened, it was on me," I said, tearing up. "And guess what? Something did happen." I was really crying then, and I grabbed a pillow and smushed it into my face to hide my salty tears.

"Hailee," Meg said, gingerly pulling at the edge of my pillow.

Eyes shut, I let her pull it off me. As soon as the bright light hit my eyes, I covered them with my hands, and I heard a sigh in return.

"We can't do this all day, Hailee," Brent breathed out.

"So? Do your stupid plan without me," I snapped, opening my eyes again.

"We need you," Meg said, grabbing my hands and squeezing them.

"Why?" I asked.

"It involves you two getting out of here," Meg said, looking at me in the eye.
