Here's a review of my short story 'Serendipity' by Anne, a published author -"I'm Anne, an author with Dreamspinner Press and DSP Publications. Thanks for the opportunity to read and comment on your story.
Grammar etc can be a bit of a learning curve which even experienced writers are still getting the hang of, but it's easily fixed with a good edit. The story was easy to read and flowed well. You have a smooth writing style, and a good grasp of writing in first person.
But, moving onto the story itself. I really enjoyed reading it, and thought the characters of Amit and Derek came across as individuals and realistic. I liked the way they complemented each other with Derek more secure in his sexuality and that being something Amit needed to grow into with the help of Derek's reassurances and love. I liked the way you included the teacher in the story as well and used him to give Amit a safe place to go to when he felt he needed to leave home.
I enjoyed the descriptions of Amit's home, and those descriptions brought with them the feeling that it was a place where Amit felt happy, and at home.
The story had a nice progression of events and growth for Amit, with both boys admitting their feelings for each other. I liked the feeling of hope at the end of the story, that they will grow together and have a future.
Cheers,
Anne "
