LILY
"Do you think everything is okay down there?" I pace up and down in my room as I wait to hear from Gavin.
Miriam watches me with sad eyes. "Girl you need to calm down. I'm sure whatever it is, Gavin will sort it out."
She walks up to me and hugs me tightly. Tears start to stream down my face at the sincerity of this moment. I you had told me a month ago that I will live in a mansion with a guy whom I barely know and be loved by a woman who doesn't even know me, I would've probably laughed right in your face. But here I am, holding on tight to Miriam, hoping this will never have to end. But fate is never on my side so someday it has to come to an end.
I sniffle and try to wipe away the tears. Miriam pulls back, worry lacing her eyes. "Hey, why are you crying?"
"It's just that I'm not used to people caring for me."
And this was completely the truth. My parents never showed me an ounce of love, they cared more about their reputation than about me. My brother and sister moved out of the house before all the shit started, but I always assumed that they left because they knew how our parents were.
I think the only person who has ever showed me love before I met Gavin, was my grandma and Joe. But other than that, I'm clueless when it comes to stuff like this.
Knock knock knock
We turn to see Gavin poking his head through the door. A smile finds its way up my face.
"Miriam is there a way you can help Lily pack?" The smile slips from my face and turns into a scowl.
Oh God. Did he find out about my past? No, no, no. How could he have found out?
I feel a full on panic attack starting. It's so bad that I almost don't hear Miriam telling Gavin she'll make sure I pack everything.
I hear a sharp gasp from where she stands. "Lily, what's wrong?" She rushes to me and leads me to the bed to sit down.
She crouches down so that we're eye-level and stares at my face. My breath comes in quick, hard gasps. My whole body is trembling and I'm know soon I'll be sporting a headache.
"Gavin! Help!" It's not long before he comes barreling through the door once again.
He questions Miriam and she points to me. His eyes meets mine for the first time before they grow big.
He rushes to my side and cradles me against his chest. "Shhh, everything will be alright." He rubs circles on my back as he tries to sooth me. We rock back and forth until Gavin is sure I am fine.
"Now, will you tell me what that was?" His eyes pleads mine and I feel my heart melt. "I know it was panic attack because I used to get them all the time as a teen." I stare at him, shocked.
I swallow a few times before I turn to face him fully. "When you told Miriam to help me pack, I started to panic because I still haven't found a place to stay."
I wait patiently for him to understand what I mean. His response, though, is not one I have been expecting. I am met with a deep, timber laugh. It sounds almost mellow. Calming. Like a deep river washing over a path of stones.
"You thought I was kicking you out again?" he asked, laughing.
"Well, aren't you?"
"Sweetheart, after the way you kissed me last night, how could I ever let you go?"
I let my head fall back on his shoulder. His chest is vibrating as he laughs at my embarrassment.
I suddenly remember the reason for my attack. "Why do I have to pack?"
