I'd Like a Drink

Grantaire sat on his bed, a single tear making its way down his cheek. He could still feel a sting on his arm where his dad had put his cigarette. He stood, and stuck his hand under his mattress. He pulled out a bottle of Jack Daniels that he had stollen from the corner store the other day and popped the top of, slumping against the wall in the corner of his room. He took a swig from the bottle and put his head in his hands.

Grantaire's dad never had laid a hand on him until last year. That's when he made the mistake of bringing a boy home with him. He thought his dad wouldn't mind - he'd never been to religious. His mom was, but she died when Grantaire was ten. After she died, they had stopped going to church. When Grantaire introduced his new boyfriend to his dad, though, his dad had flipped out. He started screaming, calling the boys "faggots" and "disgusting". The boy ran, and he never spoke to Grantaire again. After he left Grantaire's father beat him, each punch filled with rage and disgust. It was never the same after that night.

Grantaire remembered the night as he finished off the bottle. He knew there was nothing for him in this house, but he had no where else to go. He needed a walk to clear his head. He stood from his corner, swaying slightly. He didn't want to cross paths with his father, so he opened up his window and clumsily made his way down the side of his suburban house as he had so many times before. He stopped to throw up in the bush in his front yard, then made his way down the highway.

His thoughts were blurred together into something enigmatic, but he knew he was really angry and really wanted some fries. He couldn't do much about his home life, but he could bum some fries off someone equally drunk at Burger King. He kept walking, but as the glowing Burger King sign came into his line of vision all the alcohol hit his bloodstream. He stumbled of to the side of the road, and couldn't tell you what happened next.
