Beep. Beep. Beep.
Kyle's machines beep sporadically. At least he's alive.
I asked the police woman stationed outside his room for details involving his injury. She said, "He was at the Gold's Man Bank making a withdrawal when two suspicious men entered. The men pulled out artillery and started firing. Your husband jumped in the way of a kid that they had their guns trained on. They pulled the trigger hitting your husband right next to the heart. If it weren't for your husband the kid would be dead. I'm sorry." I explained to her that Kyle was not my husband, just my baby's daddy.
Annaliese is still inconsolable. She mumbles words to Kyle every now and then.
Beep! Beep! Beep!
Kyle's machines beep fast and furious. This can't be happening!
"Mrs. Jamison, I'm going to have to ask you to leave," a nurse bursted in the room. I grabbed Annaliese.
"Mommy, what's happening?"
"Daddy's, hurt Sweetie." I lead Annaliese to Zac. He is so tired that he is slumped over in a chair. "Why don't you take a break too."
Annaliese sits in the chair next to Zac and falls a sleep quickly. I stroke their heads in an attempt to keep my mind off of Kyle. Why did Kyle have to be so brave? Why did he have to bee there? Where were that kid's parents? Lost in my thoughts I neglected the doctor that was standing in front of me.
"Hello?" The doctor is timid and young, I recognize him as Kyle's surgeon. "Mrs.Jamison?"
"Yes..."
"I'm sorry. We tried to resuscitate him, but all of our attempts were failed. I'm so sorry." NO! This can't be.
