Andy was busy looking at the pictures she took. This was a total disaster. She doesn't know if it was the model's fault for letting the dress wear her down, or the designer's fault for making a dress that's a little over the top, or is it her fault not taking good shots. Or maybe everything's just going down the drain today.
Her head began to pound because she doesn't know what to make of these shots, and her deadline is tomorrow. This is just really great.
After an hour of choosing the shots that looked okay, she sent it to her the editor-in-chief and got great feedback. She looked at the time and it was already nine o'clock. Time sure did pass by quickly.
She put on her coat and left her cubicle. As she was getting out of her office building, someone tapped her shoulder. She turned around and she saw her boyfriend, Brandon smiling at her.
She grinned at him and gave him kiss in greeting. "When did you get here?" She asked.
"Just about now, I figured you wanted me to pick you up so, here I am." He said, kissing Andy's forehead.
Andy nodded. "What happened to your meeting earlier? Anything good?"
Brandon grinned broadly at her. "Well, looks like I got my first case!" he exclaimed. Mandy giggled.
"Congratulations baby." She whispered to his ear. "I'm proud of you."
Brandon nodded and wrapped an arm around his girlfriend's shoulder.
Brandon's thoughts reverted back to what had happened the day before he met with Dianne's sister, sure, he felt guilty because Dianne kissed him but he also doesn't want to hurt Andy's feelings by telling her the truth. Besides, it's not like it'll happen again. It was just a friendly kiss on the cheek, no harm done.
"Earth to Brandon," Andy said, waving her hand in front of her boyfriend's face. "I asked you if you wanted to..."
Mandy didn't get to finish speaking because Brandon's phone rang. He looked at the name of the caller and saw Dianne's name. He looked at Andy and mouthed one second. He walked off and answered the phone, her made sure that he was out of Mandy's ear shot.
"Hey, Dianne, what's up?" he asked.
"Hey Brandon, I just wanted to ask if you wanted to grab a very late dinner so we can talk about my sister's case."
Brandon thought it seemed off that Dianne asked him to meet up with her for a late dinner to talk about her sister's case.
Since, it's his first case...ever, he decided not to get on Dianne's bad graces.
"Sure, let's meet up and talk about it." He paused looking at Andy who waved at him.
"That's great Brandon, I'll text you the details. See you later! Bye!"
"Okay, see you, bye." He replied. He jogged down to Andy who smiled at him. "It looks like I won't be able to accompany. I need to meet up with a client."
Andy didn't hide the disappointment on her face. "An appointment?" she looked down at her watch. "At nine twenty in the evening?"
He looked at Andy and furrowed his brows, why is she being so petty? "Look Andy, I'm sorry but this is my first case and I want to win this so could you please just bear with me." He said, not letting Andy get a word in edgewise. "I have to go, okay?" He said as he was walking off. "I'll give you a call later, see you tomorrow!" He called a cab and got in.
Andy looked on as her boyfriend left her.
"At least he won't be whining that he doesn't have anything to do anymore." She told herself. As she walked off, a sinking feeling came about her. "A client meeting...at night?" Talk about full pledged service from a newbie lawyer,
Andy disregarded the lewd thought in her mind. Brandon would never do that to her. She trusts him. She sighed and walked alone, she was so busy with her thoughts that she didn't notice that someone was tapping her shoulder.
"Hey...Andy..."
She snapped back to reality when she saw Sean Vermont next to her, a huge grin plastered on his face. She mustered up a smile. "Oh, hey Sean, fancy meeting you here."
He grinned at her as he put his hands inside his jeans pocket. "Fancy meeting you here too." He looked at her and smiled again. "But why is a young fair lady like you lurking the streets at night?" He said in a chivalrous manner.
"Why, kind sir, it's still too early." Andy said, taking in a damsel in distress persona. They both chuckled. "I just got off of work." She said in her normal voice.
"Must've been a rough day huh?" Sean asked.
Andy nodded. "Rough wouldn't even begin to describe it." She paused, looking at the glimmering streetlights. "But then again, when you work for the biggest fashion magazine, you need to be extra tough."
Sean nodded. "Seems to me that you dreamt of a better job than this right?"
"I always thought that being able to work as a photographer will be the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. It's been three years and I keep telling myself that I achieved it...." She paused, trying to collect her thoughts.
"But it wasn't how you wanted it to be." He finished her sentence for her.
Andy looked at Sean and nodded. "Yep, that's pretty much it."
"Then quit." He said bluntly. It took Andy by a surprise. An new friend telling her to quit. That's new.
"Can I tell you something, Sean?" She asked, he nodded. "You know, as a new friend, you suck at giving advice."
Sean chuckled. "I do, right?" He looked at her. "But it all honesty, you're just making youself suffer for it."
"Okay, Confucius of our Generation," She paused, eyeing him. "If you were in my position, will you quit your job just to really find what you want to do in life?"
He nodded. "I did that already."
Andy looked confused.
"I walked out on my dad who wanted me to take over the family business, because I wanted to be a photographer." He said.
"Well then, I applaud you for being so brave." She said.
"Thanks." He said. "Now I just have to figure out how to live my life in the best possible way."
Andy nodded in agreement. "That you should do, I mean, you need to prove you father wrong."
Sean looked at Andy and smiled. There was nothing more to be added because what this girl said was true and Sean is really intending to prove to his dad once and for all that he can make it without his father's money.
