The crisp breeze of Autumn whipped past my already frizzy brown hair. You could tell Winter was coming because of the cool hush of your frosted breath and the pale, rose colored cheeks of people who carelessly pushed me out of the way in the busy New England streets, trying to get to their usual 9-5 job.
Since my ear buds were in, I didn't mind. Lana Del Ray's soothing voice could calm me any day.
As I walked to the institution I'd be spending the next 4 years at, I walked slowly on the concrete sidewalk, making sure i'm not stepping on any cracks or scraps.
Changing schools in the beginning of October (1 and a half months into the school year) isn't cool at all. I guess it's better than changing schools during midyear. But it's going to be hard to fit in with a bunch of spoiled, rich kids.
Hopefully I'll make friends -- or at least one c:
Passing through the neatly manicured grass, I heard whispers behind me. I turn around slowly I see two girls who are still giggling but interestingly enough they are still whispering about me.
"Do you see what she's wearing?" A blonde bodacious girl whispered
" I know that is SO last season." A girl with a small black fro said back.
"More like century!"
My face grew hot and I stared down at my outfit. I wore a light blue Hollister jacket, white skinnies, and a pair of Jordans my sister gave to me. With my sister, Spencer now in college my parents are in debt-- really bad debt. And the only reason I managed to get in the prestige, upper class school is because of my academics.
I guess being a nerd isn't so bad.
Wanting to flip them off I just shrug and just walked up the multiple amount of steps I had to face.
Feeling like I had reached the top of Everest, I breathed hard for awhile. Looking to my right I see an elevator and I felt stupid.
"Really?!" I groaned in frustration.
When I felt my breathing was doing better, I sighed and I opened the front door.
"This place is HUGE" I thought while gaped in amazement.
There are two white staircases that were neatly polished that led up to the classes. The scent of this place smelt of lavender, something my former public school has never smelled like. The people that walked in this school were stunning. The girls carried Coach bags (The REAL ones) While the guys wore polo and khakis (The whole preppy look)
I felt out of place and embarrassed. I wanted to run out of here and at least save my dignity. But its too late and I had to stay neutral no matter what. Being in the middle of drama would do nothing for me.
When I walked to the main office, I was greeted by a small but cheerful lady.
"Hi I'm Alejandra Harper, I'm a new- "
"Ah! Yes Here's your schedule, lock, locker combo, and map for the campus" She looked down at her watch and then her bright, hazel eyes looked up at me.
" It's 7:55. You have 20 minutes to get to class and the campus is very big. So let me assign a person to help you out."
" I don't think its necessary. I can manage" I reassured her.
" Oh no. When I say the campus is huge I really mean HUGE. 5 acres of land it sits on"
"Wow..." I stared at her, shocked and in disbelief.
"You see?" She presses the intercom. ""Hunter Masterson, please come down to the main office. Hunter Masterson"
After two fairly short minutes, A dude with brown neatly combed hair walks through the door.
"Mrs. Sullivan. You called?" He asked the lady.
" Yes, Hunter. Meet Alejandra, Alejandra meet Hunter." Our gaze met and we shake hands formally.
" Alejandra has Biology first. Which I believe is also your first class, correct ?"
"Yes Ma'am" He replied. he kindly picks up my books and papers and we say goodbye to Mrs. Sullivan
Walking straight to the lockers, I put my unneeded material in my locker and lock it. We awkwardly walked to Biology.
" I can sit by you if you want" He told me as I sat alone on a stool.
"Okay, I don't mind." I replied calmly but on the inside it felt like butterflies in my stomach... Or maybe it was because of that chili dog I ate for dinner last night.
I shivered thinking about the meaty hot dog, But then came back to reality as soon as Hunter sat beside me. He smelled fresh like Irish bar soap. I didn't want to be a creep so I paid attention to my first school lecture of my freshman year at this fine establishment called Great Barrington Academy.
But what I didn't know then was that these next 4 years would be the craziest years of my life.
