Six months ago, if you would've told me I was going to be hunted down by a ruthless vampire slayer and his rabid "puppy," I wouldn't have believed you. If you had told me the reason why I was being hunted, I would've laughed in your face and called you a raving psycho.
Six months ago, life was normal. Well, my kind of normal. The name's Janie. Eighteen, living off of daddy's trust fund and partying my life away. I grew up rich and happy. Everything I wanted was placed delicately in the palm of my hand, no questions asked. I wanted a new wardrobe, I got it. New car? No problem. Money to go do whatever the hell I wanted? Yeah. I had it all.
I moved out pretty much as soon as I blew out the eighteen candles on my cake. The next day, I was in New York in a new condo that I had my dad sign for two weeks earlier. My trust fund was now mine to do whatever with. I was unstoppable. The first month I was there, it was non stop partying and drinking with random people that I met. One of these people, was Cam.
He was first guy that I ever fell "head over heels," for. I can't honestly say that he didn't trick me into falling for him. He was everything I thought I needed. He was dangerous and...amazing in bed. But what I loved most, was the people that he associated with. They were dark and brooding. They never came during the day. And when they did come, everything was private. I was so curious then. Looking at it now, I damn my curiosity.
They were vampires. The old me, never would have said any such thing. But I've learned a lot lately, and that's exactly what they were. They came to Cam for their drug money. They had Cam sell drugs during the day to keep their business going. Again, I had no idea that this was going on.
Me finding out about the drug thing was purely by accident. I woke up from a nap one night and went to find Cam. I opened the door to the office and his "business partners," as he called them, were handing him vials of a reddish black liquid I could only assume was blood. And he handed them money in return.
I stared wide eyed at him, looking for an explanation in his deep green eyes. He pushed me from the room and slammed the door behind him. "What are you doing Janie?! I told you to knock before you come in!" By this time, he had me pushed against the wall and a finger in my face. "Do you know what's going to happen now?" He asked menacingly. I shook my head rapidly. "They're going to take you from me. And I can't do anything to stop them."
All I could do was stare and be confused. "What? What do you mean they're going to take me? This is my house!! My life! The only reason they're here is because of you!"
Cam placed a hand over my mouth. "Janie. Listen to me. You have to run. They made it very clear that what I do for them could never be told to you. Now you know."
Yeah...Still confused. "I don't know what you do for them. I mean, I had an idea, but I'm pretty sure I'm wrong."
"What do you think?" He asked pleadingly.
"Uhm, it looked like you were trading blood for money. But I don't know why." I searched his eyes for anything to give it away. I saw nothing but regret and distress. "Leave Janie. Go. Don't stop running. They'll be looking for you." With that, he turned away and went back into the room.
I stared after him with mixed emotions. Pissed, confused, upset. What the fuck just happened? As I contemplated everything that had just happened, I heard a blood curdling scream come from the office. I ran to the door and threw it open. They were drinking from him, ripping his body to shreds. And that's when I heard my own scream, high-pitched and full of pure terror.
Since that moment, my life has been one continuous nightmare...
