Turning around My heart leapt as I became very anxious. The entery behind us was completely empty, Eddie eyed me with curiosity.
"What?" He asked, following my gaze as he turned to face me, his eyes returned to me as I didn't speak. "Is it starting again?" He muttered referring to my Schizophrenia.
"I'm not sure..." I faced forwards once more and headed further into the courtyard, sitting on the edge of a large running fountain. Eddie paced behind me, stretching in front of me as I sat. His angular jaw clenched slightly as he watched an Anorexic patient picking at the bark on a tree, his bare back facing us. As his hand fell to his side the destruction the bark had caused became visible. The skin on his fingertips were gone, along with his nails. Large black splinters protruded out of the raw skin, blood soaking the grass below him and the tree. He apparently had no feeling of discomfort or pain as he continued his attempt in stripping the already raw tree.
Eddie's attention fixated on the blood, an odd look within his icy eyes. Eyeing him, I realized he had a hard scowl on his face, looking as if he had become distant. "Eddie..." My voice was soft, fearful of what he was thinking. After not getting a response, I rose to my feet, grasping his arm repeating, "Eddie" a bit louder. My nails dug into his skin making him flinch as his gaze returned to me, his eyebrows furrowing.
"What?" He growled, pulling his arm away, softly glaring at me. As he blinked his glare disappeared and his face softened, a soft breeze blew a rouge strand of hair astray from the others that were neatly slicked back in the centre of his head.
"Nothing." Sitting back down on the edge of the fountain, I brushed the surface of the water with my fingertips, watching as the water rippled softly. Boring into the rippling reflection, a vivid memory drew my mind away, leading me back to that night.
Outside my room I could hear heavy footsteps, then banging on my door. Yelling from my parents startled me as I crept backwards, covering my mouth in horror. The hinges on the door bent as the door was forcefully kicked open, my parents entering the room with deranged looks on their faces. Keeping quiet, I slipped under my bed silently, holding my breath. They walked around aimlessly, searching through my closet and bathroom.
A pair of feet stopped in front of me, shifting their weight slightly before they backed up. I let out a scream as my father fell on his hands an knee's pulling me from under the bed. Holding my arms to my sides, he pinned me against the wall, my mother smiling as she walked over with a knife.
Screaming again, I struggled trying to get him off, kicking him away and grabbed the knife as my mother lunged at me. Holding the knife firmly, I lashed out at them both. They struggled, but at the end laid still on the blood stained carpet.
Footsteps stomping up the stairs caused me to turn around, seeing my terror-struck neighbour standing in my doorway. Turning on the light she gasped, grabbing the phone off my bookshelf and called 911. The next day I had been admitted into Mount Massive Asylum. My pleas that it was out of self defence were ignored, and was blamed on my condition.
Eddie's hand grasping my arm brought be back into reality, a concerned look on his face.
"We should go." He whispered, his gaze locked on the shirtless patient by the tree. Glancing over, I saw him holding a sharp stake made of broken bark, an excited look on his face as he eyed it. Quickly standing up, I nodded, following Eddie back inside. Glancing back I saw no sign of the armed patient, but grunted as I ran into something. Eddie grunted beside me as I returned my gaze forewards, horror filling my body. The twins smiled down to both of us, the bald one in front of me with no shirt on.
"Shit." I whispered under my breath as the twin grabbed onto my arm. Wincing at the force, he shoved me against a wall, it creaked in agony from the impact. Eddie was thrown against the wall across from me, his voice booming as he began to yell.
"Get the hell off me, I don't have time for this!" I growled, trying to pull away as the back of his hand grazed my cheek. His eyes filled with excitement as he examined me, smiling as his face drew closer to mine.
Several guards came running as screams rang out in the courtyard, some stopping to get the twins off of me and Eddie. As soon as we were out of their grasp, we bolted towards the cells, the twins footsteps thundering behind us.
Slamming a cell door shut, it clicked, locking its self just in time as the twins attempted to get in. They stopped after a moment, entertainment flashing in their eyes as they smiled. Both Eddie and I panted, freezing as clanking of chains came from behind us.
