He folded his arms making his muscles flex. And boy, were they big or what, but that was not the point, he was staring right at me.
“I think I should maybe lay down some ground rules”
“Seems just about right” I said in agreement. Instead of continuing, he gave me a subtle stink eye thinking that I was mocking him – but in reality I wasn’t.
“First of all, you can never enter my room without permission” he started off, stressing on never and we all know why.
“Next, you have to learn to split the work in the house. We can either separate our chores or do all of them alternatively, you choose” He looked at me, expecting a reply.
“Alternative days” nodding in agreement he continued.
“Right, and you have to stop breaking things, like seriously, you break another thing I’m going to make you pay. That music system was worth £600!” My eyes expanded immediately. How did he find out? Great, now he must think low of me because I tried to hide it. I was going to tell him, so what if I was going to take a week to do so? The point is I would’ve come clean.
“I tripped over the wires and I jus-“
“Yup, I saw. Anyway the next rule is that no bringing in strangers and letting them stay.” I raise my hand in doubt, I don’t exactly know why I raised my hand, it’s not like I’m in a class or anything. But it just felt right. Yeah, sometimes I just don’t make sense.
“What if the person staying happens to be my best friend?” After giving it a thought, he agrees.
“Only she’s allowed. No one else, like no guys and everything. But that’s something I wouldn’t worry about, you don’t seem like the type who does that kind of stuff.” Of course, another assumption that I was the type of girl that can’t get guys. I roll my eyes to show the least interest I have in his postulates about me.
“Last one” he says almost finishing.
“No painting the walls. Not even your room’s.” On normal circumstances this rule wouldn’t make a difference to me, but somehow it did this time. I had already planned on getting it painted, I mean they were plain white. Did he read my mind? Seems like it, but considering the amount of damage I had already done, I chose to agree to all the terms put forth by him.
“They all seem reasonable” I say, ensuring that I would follow them all.
“Good.” He pats my shoulder, like I’m his pet and walks away.
“Harry” I ask in a squeaky voice.
“Yeah?”
“Can I please enter your room?” his eye brows narrow and his face turns a little tense.
“Why?”
“Cause I need to pee and the only bathroom in this house is like in your room” I speak in a-matter-of-fact voice.
“What? There’s one in your room”
“No there isn’t” I say rather confidently. Instantly Harry’s mouth forms an ‘o’.
“Sorry babe, but I completely forgot to unlock it in your room. I’ll get the keys, you can use mine for now.”
“That’s what that door is for? The bathroom? I thought it had some stack of hidden secrets that you’re too embarrassed to share. You know, I also planned on breaking into it and then blackmailing you with the things I would have found.”
“Aha, cheeky little mastermind you must be”
I race to his room, with him right behind me walking at a slower pace.
