I wake up to nothingness.
You know those moments in TV or movies when someone just got beat up, or is waking up from a coma, or whatever, and at first their vision is blurred until they see lights overhead start to flicker, and their most beloved family and friends are gathered around them in a circle? This is what it was like. Of course, they weren't beloved family or friends, but doctors, surgeons, nurses, you name it. It was as if I was the guy from operation, and they were the players.
I came to realize that not only were they doctors and not my beloved family or friends, but that once my vision cleared, I couldn't see anyone I recognized anywhere in sight.
"What is happening? What am I doing here? Where is everyone else?" I asked the nearest nurse I saw. I probably sounded more hostile then I intended to be, however the only thing going through my mind was the last thing I remembered on repeat - my friends, the diner, the disagreement, the car ride...
The nurse did not answer.About a minute later, I saw Detective Sullivan out of the corner of my eye. He works with my dad at the precinct.
I already knew where this was going.
