Chapter 1

Arthur Kirkland was a cranky Brit. Well, who wouldn't be? He was stuck in a wheelchair after an accident and everyone always looked at him with pity. He hated pity. It was worse than being made fun of. His life was hard, but at least he had a nice paying job as a writer, food, and a roof over his head. He really couldn't complain, but there was one thing that always bothered him. He felt alone, though he would never admit it. Yet, he had no one to trust; no friends, no relatives, and definitely no wife. She had left him after the accident. He didn't blame her, after all, who would want to spend their life with him and his irritable attitude? That's right, no one.

On a particular rainy day these dark thoughts were the only thing going through his head as he walked(uh...rolled?) home with an umbrella to guard him from the rain. He was suddenly shaken from his thoughts by a yowl. Startled, Arthur looked towards the direction of the sound and found it coming from inside a dark alley. He was quite curious of what made the sound so he decided to check it out. Rolling into the alley, he found a white cat with a darker colored fur ring around his neck and a black tail. The poor thing looked miserable, it was dirty and soaking wet. It seemed it was asleep from exhaustion. Arthur looked out of the alley. It seemed no one was looking for this cat, He tentatively looked back at it. It would surely die if it was left alone......"Bloody hell what am I doing?" Arthur muttered to himself as he gently picked up the cat and set it down on his lap. He took of his coat and covered the fur ball before quickly making his way home.

What was he doing!? Arthur was in a wheelchair, he could barely take care of himself for Christ's sake! Yet, there he was picking up a stray from the street.

Sometimes he wondered if he had simply gone mad.

That would certainly explain some things.

Sorry it was so short, I just wanted to start out nice and simple so that I could build up the story better. Hope you liked and will stick around to read more! I'm really excited to write this story.
