CHAPTER VII
“Umm… why is your hand on my shoulder?”
“What? Ohh! Yeah, I know you must not be familiar with all this. Anyway we call this a friendly gesture.” I guess he knew what I meant and he was teasing me or was I really that dorky.
We were heading to some café, that’s what Mila told me. We were gonna have some ‘fun’ there. Yeah, that’s what she said, but how, no mention of it.
“See, Nerdy. I know all this is new for you and you really are an immature baby from inside and you miss your mommy so you better call her and tell her you’re safe and sound with the bitch you met that day in the grocery store.” We all were sitting in the café, and yeah those three mermaids were with us too. Obviously the boys were busy with them and Mila was busy lecturing me.
“I left a letter. Look there’s no need to do that. I’m fine and no. I’m not immature.”
“Well, well. Isn’t it so dramatic? You left a letter for your dearest mother in the time era of digitization!” Mila was mocking me.
“Mila, I’m almost nineteen. I’m legally an adult and I can take my own decisions. I don’t need my parents consent now.” I picked up my cup of latte and brought it near my face for its heat. I was confused. I had no idea what to do. “You yourself make your own decision, how can you ask me to not to.”
“I am not asking you to stop making your own decisions. I’m just suggesting you to consult your parents, at least for the time they are with you. Hayley, I... I never got the right guidance. I was seven when I lost my mom and my dad’s the only family I have. Even he stays out for months and months. But I don’t blame him for that. He’s doing that for me. Believe me, there are times when I see others with their family and wish to have such guidance in my life. And your one of those people.” I touched her hand in a consoling manner. She was right. But I never imagined in my life that a girl like Mila would give me a moral lecture.
“I’m sorry.” I said looking into her eyes. And the next time I saw those eyes was when I was on phone talking to my mom. She seemed fine… happy. She looked like an entirely different person to whom I was talking minutes ago.
“What did she say?” Mila asked me.
“Who?” Jake interrupted.
“Ohh shut up, I’m talking to Nerdy.”
“Nothing much. But I guess I’m gonna have to leave right away.”
“Why are you leaving? The track hasn’t even started yet.” Jake seemed all worried, so did Mila.
“My mom’s coming here to take me back home.” I told them. Their faces were epic. As if they saw a ghost or something.
“I guess I just got the best example of unintended consequences.” Mila said in a monotone.
All I had to do now was to wait for several thousand seconds, wait for the disaster to come. Yes! I am showing the signs of a spoilt child, calling my own mom disaster. But truth is truth, this disaster declared the end of my life’s very first solo trip.
I was sitting on a bench glaring the view in front of my eyes. All I could see was the landscape of white serenity. I had nothing left to do. I was sad and helpless; my mom was definitely taking me with her that day.
