Chapter VIII
“Why don’t you mind your a** first?” that massive guy pushed Mila and she almost fell. But I took her hand, she recovered her balance.
Suddenly it seemed like Jake lost his control. He went straight to that guy and caught him by the collar of his jacket. “How dare you touch her?” he was extremely angry. He pushed that guy to the wall and banged him again and again. And all this time he maintained his grip over his collar. Just then few other similar looking men came to the spot and one of them pulled Jake and punched his jaw. Jebby saw that and came over running and pulled that man and punched him on his nose, it started bleeding right away.
The other men were just coming in our direction. Jebby and Jake looked at each other and then at Mila and me.
Mila gave a nod and Jebby gave one in return.
“Come on! We are not scared of you pussies!” Mila shouted at those guys. Just then Jebby came and pulled me and Mila along with him and all four of us started running.
“What? Where are we going? We cannot run away like this!” Mila was still complaining.
“Jake, shut her up before she gets us killed.” We all were still running. I looked behind and saw they were coming behind us.
I got really scared as I was the one left behind, I shouted, “they are coming.”
“Nerdy run!”Jebby held my hand and we parted ways. Mila and Jake went in the opposite direction. There was a small market place; I threw all the baskets of fruits at those guys.
“Smart move! Now don’t leave my hand.” Jebby said with a smile. It seemed like he was enjoying this entire thrill. Even to me it was extremely exciting.
Just then a man came in front of us and held me. I couldn’t get out of his grip.
“Nerdy bend!” Jebby shouted and I did as he said. He threw the chilly powder kept outside a shop over that man. He lost his grip over me and I ran away from him, towards Jebby and held his hand.
He pulled me inside a small gap behind a shop. It was like a storage area. “Catch your breath.” He said to me.
“Where are Mila and Jake? I just hope they didn’t get themselves caught.”
“Yeah!” we both laughed a bit. “So… are you enjoying all this?”
“Very much! I’ve never experienced all this. It really feels nice to be free. It feels great knowing that I’m no more stuck in those books. You have no idea how much I wanted all this. If it wasn’t for Mila, I would never have experienced it.” I was speaking so openly, I had never spoken in such a manner with Jebby. Then reality dawned upon me. All this thrill and adventure was temporary. “But again, all this wont last forever, tomorrow I will head back home with my mom and ‘the end’ to all this.” I didn’t notice Jebby was actually listening to all my chatter with concentration.
“Let’s run away. Your mom won’t be able to find you, at least, not until this trip ends.” He was talking pretty seriously.
“I…I don’t know. We don’t even know where we can hide from her. And why would you do that for me?” I was confused. ‘Runaway’- this word really confused me.
He didn’t mention where or why would he do that. It was just something really absurd to hear from Joshua Hamilton's mouth.
“Say, it’s a payback for all those notes.” He smiled and pulled my cheeks. “Now let’s leave. Let’s see where those two are.”
We finally came out of that small room and started looking for those two. “Why don’t you call them?” I asked.
“My battery is dead. You try.” He said looking at his phone.
