Okay now the last thing I expected at the lockers the next morning--well not really last--was to see James hitting on a petite blond girl pressed against his locker. My blood began to broil, didn't he just break a girl's heart yesterday? Why were girls in this school so stupid to keep running back to this boy? Just as James began to lean toward the girl I dropped my book bag on the floor to comfortably open my lock.

Just slightly, I flicked my wrist toward James' direction knowing that were exactly three textbooks, one binder, and four folders in my bag. As it collided with his foot, his head swung back and his eyes bulged wide, "Holy shit!" He cursed as he brought his foot up to aid it.

"Omigosh, are you okay?!" the girl squeaked as her hands flew up to her face. My god, her voice was annoying.

"I'm so clumsy. I apologize. Are you okay?" I said in mock concern as I watched the girl hand me my bag.

"What's in that? You could've seriously hurt him!" she scolded me.

That was my plan, genius.

"James, maybe you should go to the nurse." she continued.

"It's not that serious, Stephanie. You go ahead, I'll catch up to you later." James said, leaning his back against the locker, cradling his foot like a baby. I rolled my eyes, he was such a girl. The girl, Stephanie, turned to glare at me with her bright blue eyes, flipped her hair over her shoulder and stormed down the hall. She was obviously angered I ruined her chance with James.

"Bye Stephanie! See you later!" I shouted after her as I waved at her enthusiastically. She shot me the finger and disappeared down the hall. I mentally gave myself a pat on the back before turning to twist my lock.

"You did that on purpose," James said, finally acknowledging my presence. I turned to look at him and instead of looking pained and in agony like a few seconds ago, his foot was on the ground and his face was surprisingly calm.

"No, I didn't. You're so full of yourself that--"

"I saw you, babe. You know, you don't have to scoop to such low levels to keep me to yourself. I'll always be here, just say the word."

That did it and I snapped, "You are the most narcissistic, vain, self-centered, egoistic pig I've ever met! You just broke up with a girl yesterday and you're about to hook up with a girl right now in the hallway less than twenty-four hours later! And to make things worse, you have the audacity to try to flirt with me after she leaves! I mean, how the hell do you sleep at night?! There are girls that fall head over heels in love with you and you're only in love with yourself!"

When I was done I was panting hard and I felt pleased with myself--someone needed to give that boy a piece of mind. After I looked up though, my face fell. James looked like he didn't even register anything I said, his face was blank and his eyes had a lazy glaze to it. He tuned out every word. My shoulders dropped and I turned back to my locker to finally open it.

As I twisted the first number I felt his fingers playing in my hair and today I didn't even have the energy or motivation to push him away.

"You know, Hayley, you could be pretty hot if you'd stop doing this." He clamped his fingers back and forth to indicate the talking signal.

"Wow, thanks James. You'd be less hideous if you had one of these," I tapped my head, grabbed my books and started down the hall well-aware that if I turned my head James would still be staring at me.

"This food is disgusting," Abby complained picking up her pizza and turning it downwards to display the grease shamelessly dripping off the tip of the pizza. Stacey and I curled our upper lip up to indicate our disdain.

"That's why I go to Starbucks before school---to get some real food." Stacey said unwrapping her breakfast sandwich and showing it off to us.

"What's wrong with you, Hayley? You look more annoyed than usual." Abby said turning her attention towards me.

"Oh lord. The furrowed eyebrows, the fire in her eyes, the way she squints her eyes every five minutes--it's another James issue." Stacey said, rolling her eyes as she brought the sandwich up to her small, thin lips. Stacey used to model before she took up smoking and they gave her the axe, and you could tell she modeled by her thin body and near perfect appearance.

Today, she was wearing a blue peasant top that contrasted perfectly against her olive skin and she wore sky blue eyeshadow that highlight her dark brown eyes.

"What happened now?" Abby sighed, joining in Stacey's lack of enthusiasm. But like I said, they weren't locker neighbors with James and they didn't understand his play-boyish ways.

"You know your problem? All you do is complain about James but you never do anything about it." Stacey intervened, staring at me with her big eyes.

"What am I supposed to do, Stacey, huh? There aren't any options." I say rolling my eyes.

"Are you forgetting yesterday's conversation? Why don't you do it? I'm putting fifty dollars down for you to play the player by the end of three months." Stacey said raising her eyebrows.

"Guys, I think this is a bad idea." Abby joined in, her eyes darted between Stacey and I.

"Fifty dollars?" my eyes widened, "I get three months?" I said, ignoring Abby completely.

"Starting tomorrow. Deal?"

"Deal."
