Chapter 5-Scary Consequences And Guilt

Chancelor Ava Paige:
I was going to check on Thomas. His crush, Kate, was killed the other day, and I'm worried Thomas will try and hurt himself.

When I reached his dorm, I knocked. "Thomas, are you in there?" I called into the room. "Thomas?" I called again. Still, no response. I was worried.

I tried opening the door, but it was locked. "Thomas! Open the door!" I hollered, banging on the door. I pulled out my wad of keys, slipped in the right key, and unlocked the door. I barged in, and was horrified at what I saw.

Thomas was hanging from the light by a belt, boxes were scattered around the room, and a folded piece of paper was on his bed (a note I'm guessing).

"Thomas!" I screamed. I rushed to him, and freed him. He collapsed to the ground. His neck had a purple ring going around his neck. I pulled out my walkie- talkie, and dialed the medical lab. "Send nurses to room A48 now!" I ordered. Yes Chancelor said the operator, and the line went dead.

I felt for a pulse on Thomas, and felt a light one. "Thomas, hold on, help is on the way" I whispered to him. If he died too, then our project will fail. I heard the nurses coming, and I felt relieved. They rushed in, and started to get him up onto the bed, ready to go.

He was taken to the medical lab and the doctors and nurses began working. I was standing off to the side, watching them work intently. After a few minutes, the heart monitor began beating. Slowly at first, but got stronger with every beat. "He's okay, we got to him just in time. He will have a permanent mark on his neck I'm afraid" said one of the nurses. "Thank you, just get him what he needs so he can wake up" I ordered, walking out of the room.

The Next Morning-Thomas:
All I could see was darkness. It swallowed me. I couldn't feel, hear, or see anything. I tried to move, but felt as if I was paralysed. Did I succeed? Am I dead? Is this what death is like? Strange.

Just then, I could faintly hear a beeping sound. I could feel cool metal on my neck. These feelings got stronger. The beeping sounded like a heart monitor. The cool metal felt like a metal operation table in the labs.

My ears were ringing, and my head hurt. My neck hurt, too. I opened my eyes, and everything looked foggy. After a few moments, everything was clear. I was right. I was in the medical lab.

Just then, the door opened to reveal Chancelor Ava Paige and one of the nurses. Chancelor looked angry. Now I wished I were dead. I was in deep trouble now.

"Thank you Charlene", said Chancelor, hinting for her to leave. "Yes ma'am" said Charlene, leaving quickly.

"So Thomas, how do you feel?" She asked walking to my bed. "Okay" I said, fear evident in my voice. "Well, you sure did give us quite the scare. When you get better, you will be in a world of trouble" she said, anger in her voice. "I know, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to cause so much worry. I just miss Kate So much. I don't want to live without her", I hoped she bought it, but I doubt she would. "Well, your punishment is all arranged. Since you need a distraction from Kate's tragic death, and we need another person in the maze, I have arranged for you to be put in the maze Trials.
