SCOTT:
I arrived at the restaurant half an hour early. Luckily my manager let me go alone because she knew how much this reunion meant to me. As I walked into the restaurant, it was pretty much empty except for a few people doing some final rearrangements on the welcoming banner. I spotted Nicole almost immediately and rushed over to her, thankful that there was someone I could talk to.
"Hey, Nicole!" I exclaimed, beaming down at her.
"Scott! Oh my gosh I'm so happy you could make it!" She gushed. She seemed just as happy to see me as I was to see her.
I explained how I had some time off and decided to come back to Texas for this reunion and to see my family. Before long we were chatting like old times; it felt so good to have someone see me for me, instead of focussing on my fame or money or whatever. I never knew whether people talked to me because they liked me or they wanted me to plug their brand on my Instagram or something. Soon the room started filling up around us, the restaurant was getting louder and louder, filled with the sounds of chatting and laughter.
"Oh, before I forget, do you wanna come check the microphones out quickly? They're in the back room over here," Nicole asked, motioning towards the back.
"Sure thing," I replied and followed her to the room where the microphones were. After sorting out the mic and deciding on what time to perform, Nicole headed back to greet more people and I went out into the restaurant alone.
Wow, it was crazy to see so many familiar faces after being in LA for so long. When I moved there I had no one, I had to start completely afresh and make all new friends. I was pleased to see everyone I used to go to school with; from my friends, to those I never even spoke to at school. Everything felt so familiar, and safe. It really felt like home. I was starting to get emotional just looking around the room at everyone enjoying themselves, until I noticed a slim, dark haired man facing away from me. He was wearing black skinny jeans and an army green bomber jacket with a black collar, along with some shiny patent creepers. His hair was shaved extremely short, leaving only a long sweeping fringe that looked, from the back, as if it covered his left eyebrow. Was that Mitch Grassi? Wow, he looked different, but I could tell from his effeminate body language and distinctive gait, it had to be him!
All of a sudden I felt nervous. I kinda stopped talking to him after high school, what if he didn't want to be my friend anymore?
Wait, pull your self together Scotty. Hesitantly, I walked over to where he was standing, laughing with whoever he was talking to. I wasn't really paying attention to her. I took a deep breath.
"Mitch?"
He turned around so suddenly I thought I'd made him jump. Oh it was Mitch alright - those sparkling eyes I hadn't seen for so long stared right up into my own as he greeted me.
"Scott! Wow.. um hi!"
His voice. I forgot how beautiful his voice was. Not only his melodic singing voice, but his normal speaking voice seemed as though it had been given to him by angels. He seemed nervous all of a sudden so I continued.
"Hey! It's been so long man, you look great!" I gestured towards his outfit, trying to make the compliment seem as casual as possible. But he really did look good that's for sure. "How are you?"
Mitch took a little longer to reply than I expected. Did he really still get nervous around strangers? I mean, I wasn't a stranger but we hadn't spoken or even seen each other in so long. It was kinda cute.
"I- I'm great!" He blurted out, almost as if he'd forgotten to answer the question.
"Well," I laughed at the small, flustered man in front of me, "that's great, and I'm great too."
