Chapter 4 - Pain Of The Past-

❝ 'The past doesn't define us Sage', Jace said looking over at her. 'Yeah what if the past is what made me Jace, what if the Pain of my past made me who i am?' She said looking up at him her eyes sparkling like the stars above them. ❞

Sage and the guys were now back from their small adventure and run in with the assholes who ruined Hers and Jaces night. She walked through the big double wooden doors, hanging her coat on the coat hanger next it and taking her shoes off, picking them up in her hands. Jace and Clary where at the back talking and Simon was right behind them seeming to be deep in thought about something. Probably how he is going to come out of the love triangle his in and how to tell Clary he loves her, Sage thought, boy was she wrong about that though.

"Sage!" Isabelle explained rushing towards the girl to check for any injuries accidentally burning her from the hot steaming liquid dripping from the spoon. "Izzy I'm was perfectly fine till two seconds ago" Sage smiled up at the girl looking up at her and Izzy doing the same only looking down at her. " Sorry I was making some soup for you guys" she smiled her perfectly white teeth showing, "At 3 o'clock in the morning" Jace said quizzically walking through the door as well followed by the two bestfriends. "Yes, are you guys hungry?" she questioned looking over at all of them her eyes landing on Simon at the end staying there a little longer. "No!" come from both Sage and Jace, earning them a glare, "ungrateful bastards" she mutters under her breath. "I'm- I am not feeling so well so i think I'm just going to head to my room to sleep" Clary spoke up still not recovered from before. Jace looking over at where she stood seconds ago was nudged by Sage " go and see if she needs anything, will you" she spoke hiding the annoyance and disappointment of the way he suddenly cared about the girl. Jace looking over at her one more time, nodded taking off. " I'm Hungry for sure!" Simon let out making Sage roll her eyes and smirk towards Izzy, "I let you guys enjoy your soup"

Smiling she left the kitchen and made her way into her bedroom to change out of the outfit and into some sweats and a jumper, and made her way up to the garden/ greenhouse at the higher ground. its her favourite place to go. Looking over at all the flowers Sage smiled and cupped a rose that was almost glittering under the moons light and plucked it making it turn lilac.

Turning she walked up the stairs to go further into the green house and finally made it at the opening seating down she placed the rose next to her and looked at into the night to see the houses and streets, the sky above her gave a cry as the rain started to pour. Smiling Sage was glad that her at Alec had fixed it up to make this place somewhat rain proof, they had made a shielding rooftop with some planks of wood that they had found.

This was Sages safe space.

Admiring the rain Sage was pulled out of her thoughts when she heard rustling form behind her. Expecting Alec she carried on looking out in the open. "You know I'm surprised you still come here" a chuckle followed that voice. Turning her head quickly Sage gave out a small glare, "Why the hell are you up here?" she questioned her eyes landing on the golden ones in front of her. "What do you mean? Sage I've known for this place since you and Alec decided to disappear for days on end" Jace now spoke nudging her lightly so there was more room for him and sat down. Sage said nothing to busy overthinking. "Then why didn't you say anything?" She looked back at the sky being cracked open and the darkness of the dark blue sky starting to show now. " I liked coming up here and watching you get lost in your own thoughts" Jace spoke more quietly now, like he was scared that someone might hear him.

"Careful Wayland, might actually convince me that you care a bit to much" she tried to joke but it just came out half heartedly spoken. " Sage" Jace started but was cut off short by her. "You know seeing Blackwell today woke me up" she paused and faced him "So much pain is reminded from him and Valentine that its hard to focus sometimes, not from the pain but from the hatred that is for both of them and for Pangborn of course. " she added the last part as she felt she had to explain that it wasn't form weakness but from the rage the surged through her blood.

Jace now looking at her, taking her features in he saw the girl he always saw, her light ash grey hair falling framing her face in waves, her green eyes always so mesmerising seeming like they are looking into your soul, her buttoned nose and her plumb lips, shaking his head he spoke up " Sage we all have a dark past behind us, i know he hurt you i know your family is dead because of him, so is mine... but you can't let that control you, you can't let the darkness in Sage" Jace finished his voice gentle. She looked over at him "My past is more darkness than light Jace, there is this darkness inside me that i don't understand, there is this burning fire inside of me that... that" she had paused not sure of how to explain how to phrase it in the right words, " that clouds everything good, Jace there is something wrong with me, and it all comes from-" she was cut off before she could finally say it. "The past doesn't define us Sage" Jace said looking over at her. "Yeah what if the past is what made me Jace, what if the Pain of my past made me who i am?" She said looking up at him her eyes sparkling like the stars above them. " Who you are Sage is a warrior, you are one of the strongest people i know, thats who you are." He said now looking at the view. Sage pushing back what she really wanted to say, she placed a small smile on her lips and said " Sheez when did you become Alec" she said joking nudging him slightly and leaning her head on his shoulder.
