The Black Wolf [ON HOLD]

Chapter 4

Xavier POV

She looks at me, her eyes full of curiosity and fear.

I look at her, my eyes full of love and anger.

Unfortunately, the bastards that did this to her got away last night. To say I was pissed would be an understatement.

I look at her eyes, realizing that they are silver and her hair is grey.

"Mate is beautiful." King says, happily.

I simply chuckle and say "You are so whipped."

"Whatever." He replies and I push him in the back of my mind.

I smile at her and move the chair closer to her bed. But, when I do, I noticed that she moves back a bit. I've also realized that she doesn't speak. I decided to speak at that point.

"Nothing is wrong with the water, you know." I tell her.

She simply looks at me and then drinks the whole glass of water.

I gently take the cup from her and set it back on the table.

"I know you're probably wondering what my name is so I'll tell you my name." I say, adding

"My name is Xavier Jackson."

I see that she has a slight smile on her face.

"Now, can you tell me your name?" I ask her.

She looks away and starts to play with her fingers.

"She will open up to you in time. What happened to her shouldn't have." King pipes up.

"How do you know what happened to her?" I ask.

"Her wolf, Starfire told me and trust me, your not gonna like it. I'm surprised I didn't take over when she was telling me what happened." King says, angrily.

"Thanks for the heads up, man." I say.

"No problem." He replies. I put him in the back of my mind.

I look up at her to see her still playing with her fingers. The urge to hold her is strong but I can't do it- yet.

The door opens and in walks the doctor and I see her tense up and her eyes grow wide with fear.

I take the chance to hold her hand and she tenses, gripping my hand tightly.

"She's not gonna hurt you."

"Wonderful. Your up. My name is Doctor June and I've been taking care of you for the past two weeks. How are you feeling?" She asks her.

My mate turns and looks at me.

"She wants you to answer for her, doofus." King says.

"Oh, right." I say.

"I think she's fine." I tell the doctor.

"Ok, just make sure she takes these pills. It will help with the pain and she will have to take these shots, twice a day. It will help to strengthen her and her wolf." The doctor says.

"Oh, ok. Thank you, Doctor June. Oh, could you get me a pen and notepad, please?"

"Yes and your welcome, my King and Queen." She bows and walks out the door.

We sat there in silence for a few minutes until the doctor comes back with the pen and notepad. I thank her once more and she leaves.

"Now, can you tell me your name?" I ask and she shakes her head yes.

I hand her the pen and notepad and her hand brushes against mine a bit, causing King to murr.

" You are so whipped." I tell him.

"I don't care. Our mate is adorable." He tells me, gushing.

"I know that." I tell him and I can feel him retreating.

I sit and watch her as she writes on the notepad. Well, struggle at least. I look to see that she doesn't exactly know how to hold a pen correctly but she writes nonetheless. She hands me back the notepad and I read what she wrote:

My name is Sapphire.

I look up at her and smile before asking another question.

"How long have you been there?"

She takes back the pen and notepad and scribbles her answer down and hands it back to me, causing a low growl to erupt from me.

As long as I can remember.

I look up to see her staring at me, eyes filled with fear.

"I would never hurt you. I'm just upset." I tell her and the question that she asks me makes me sad and angry.

Are you mad at me?

I look up at her and instantly regret growling.

"No, I could never be mad at you. I'm mad at the bastard that took you."

She nods her head and I ask her one last question: "What is the man's name? It will help me catch him."

A bit of fear creeps into her eyes but she takes the pen and notepad once more and I finally know his name; well his first name anyways.

Chase.

"That's all we need. We are royalty and have the best of the best working for us. We will find out soon enough where that filthy coward his hiding." King says, seething with anger. "He will pay for what he has done to our mate." He continues.

"The time will come soon, King." I say calmly, but stiffly; feeling the anger coursing through our veins. "But for now, let's focus on our little mate." I tell him. With that, King smiles and begins to murr as I push him back into my mind.

Now, I have two names: Chase and Brody.

I smile at the thought of our little mate and she smiles as well. I decide to hold her hand and do so. She tenses but quickly relaxes.

"Are you ready to leave?" I ask her.

She looks at me, confused.

I chuckle and say "Your feeling better so we can leave the hospital and go somewhere far away where those men can never hurt you again."

She writes down something on the notepad and what I see makes me sad.

I'm scared to leave and that's not possible. He told me that I could run but that he will always find me.

I look up to see tears filling her eyes. I hold both her hands and look her in the eye.

"I promise you that he won't ever find you. He'd have to kill me first."

Her eyes grow wide, quickly scribbling something down on the notepad.

No! You can't die because of me. I won't let you.

"It's just an expression and where we're going, there are a lot of people protecting me and you so he won't be able to get to you, ok?"

She nods her head, wiping the tears away and smiles before writing on the notepad once again.

Good. Now, let's go.

I smile, handing her some clothes and sit in one of the chairs as she hops out of the bed, walking to the bathroom and shuts the door. After a few minutes, I stand up as she walks out the bathroom and we both head to the door and leave the hospital.

Both of us headed towards a new beginning.
