I stayed quiet for most of the dinner, only saying hello when I was introduced to any of the many of Jules's family members. Every once and awhile I would feel his mothers eyes on me but as soon as my eyes looked up she was talking to someone and laughing loudly. Dr. Evans walked by a few times asking how the food was and if I wanted a drink. Each time I refused and eventually finished my plate of food. I looked on as his huge family chattered around the room which, could honestly be a hall it was so huge.
All of a sudden the chatter stopped every mouth dropped and all eyes started looking from Jules to the door. I looked up at Jules and his jaw had locked, his eyes had lost all the kindness I had ever knew his eyebrows furrowed the rage imminent in his face. I followed his gaze to the door. Standing in the doorway was a guy who looked a little older than Jules and I. He had the same slight caramel skin tone of Jules with shaggy dark chocolate hair that fell just above his shoulders. His eyes were deep brown and a devilish smirk was smeared across his face. Dr Evans had come to stand behind Jules resting a hand firmly on his shoulder as if trying to hold him down.
"Amintiți-vă Sammy este aici." Marcus hissed under his breath gripping Jules's tense shoudler tighter. I looked up at Dr. Evans hearing my name in his foriegn sentance and the back to Jules. What is going on? Jules took in a breath and dropped his shoulders, slowly standing up. He turned to his father and murmered something to his dad before walking down the long isel between tables and out of the room. I sat frozen not knowing what to do.
"Nicolai! How nice of you to join us. Come in and eat!" Marcus's voice streamed over the crowd of speechless silent people. The strangely uncomfortable man stepped down into the dining hall smiling smugly. I looked once again up to Dr. Evans and he smiled warmly at me.
"Why is everyone so quiet. Eat! Talk! We are all family here!" Marcus called out and as if on queue everyone started talking again, some started greeting the Nicolai guy and others stared on with disdain. Marcus made a bee line down the isle and for the door that Jules had disappeared through. The once happy room suddenly had an heir of excruciating uncomfortableness to it and I looked up at Rosemary, her eyes met mine and she whispered a sorry her eyes full of despair. I shook my head telling her not to worry. This was defiantly not the most uncomfortable situation I had been in. I felt a hand fall lightly on my shoulder and looked up to find Jules smiling down at me with a slight rigidness to his stance.
"Come on, let's get out of here. Please?" his eyes fell scared like I would say no. I stood up slowly and with seconds he had grabbed my wrist and was dragging me out of the room. I could feel Nicolai watching us and I knew Jules could too because he stopped just before the door putting his hand on the small of my back letting me walk in front of him out of the door. His eyes darted over his shoulder as he closed the door. As soon as the door clicked Jules let out a deep breath and slid the floor his hands slid up through his hair. He tugged at it for a second before heaving and looking up at me. I was so out of place and lost for words and knelt down so I was face to face with him and stared into his eyes. They were full of desolation, before I could control myself my hand lifted up to his hair running my fingers through and leaving them at the bas of his neck, I dropped my voice asking him,
"What happened?"
