At school on Friday morning Jules had a smile bigger than ever strung across his face.

"What's up with you this morning, Why are you so happy?" I scowled. He rolled his eyes laughing.

"I think the question you should be asking is why aren't you happy?" I thought back to the night before; the police, ambulance, my mum and how Gemma had no idea about what had happened. At all. I think I had a pretty good reason to not be happy.

"Sammy?" I looked up from the ground to his face, his smile had faded.

"Are you alright?" The concern seeped through his voice. I looked away blinking back tears if there was any one person I didn't want to cry in front of it was him. He stepped closer. Closing the space between us he put a hand on my shoulder. I wiped a small tear that was threatened to fall down my cheek. I tried a weak smile and looked at him blinking away another threatening tear. He put his arm around my shoulder and smiled.

"I got my license!" He grinned.

"Really?" I was still learning as I didn't exactly want to drive with Jarod and my mum needed her car in the morning and didn't come home from work until after 9 some nights so I only drove at my lessons every odd Saturday evening.

 "Do you like ice cream?"

 "Yea, I guess so. Why?"

"I know a great ice-cream place in town, did you want to come with me after school and get some?" I smiled I hadn't had ice-cream in ages. I searched my brain for any reason not to go, all my homework was done, I had no assignments and no one would be home untill late. I lifted my eyes to meet his and slowly nodded.

"Just let me check with my mom." I shrugged, He grinned. His arm was still nestled on my shoulders. I took out my phone and texted that I would be home late because I was going to library to study as the bell went and Jules stood in front of me taking his arm down from my shoulder and grabbed my shoulders in his hand lightly squeezing.

"Can you smile now Sammy? Please for the sake of ice-cream." The slightest laugh broke from my mouth and I picked up my backpack and together we walked to English.

                                                        ᵟ

'Hi Honey, that's fine but could you

pick up Gem please after you finished

studying I'm going to be home late tonight'

My chest imploded as my eyes scanned the text I looked over at Jules who was lazily doodling in his book and whispered

"I'm really sorry, I have to pick up my sister from preschool." My voice cracked as Jules read the text over my shoulder.

"Don't be sorry, If you direct me I can take you to pick her up and we can all go to Ice-cream." He smiled over my shoulder at himself. I raised my eyebrows thinking about his option.

"Ok," I gave in, he leaned his back against the wall where we were sitting smiling. I looked back at my phone and let out a breath.

"I like this school." I looked at Jules confused by his last statement.

"What, I do. I never had any friends at any of my last schools like you."

"Thanks, I already knew I was different."

"You are. In a good way," he assured me "It's easy to talk to you, like really easy." I raised my eyebrow I had thought the same about him since he started at the school.
