(One Year later)

(Summer 2013)

Zoe’s Point of View:

Well, hey there. It’s me, Zoe Bagans. It’s been almost a year since I’ve last seen my dad, Zak Bagans. Yep, Zak Bagans is my dad. This past year has been so busy for me. Besides it being my sophomore year of high school (yes I’m entering my junior year), I also got a brand new baby brother. Well… he’s actually my half-brother, but still kind of cool, right?

But anyways, let’s get back to the present. Today is August 3rd, 2013. It’s a week before my dad’s show, Ghost Adventures, airs its premier for season eight. But today is also important for another reason… why? Well because today is the day I get to see my dad again…

I’m only seeing him again because my mom, step-dad, my little half-brother, Asher, and I recently moved. We moved to a new (well, more like old) house, it’s an old Victorian-style house located in Boston, and my mom thinks it’s haunted. Yeah, haunted. So naturally, my mom called my dad. I roll my eyes to the last thought, and I shift a little in my desk chair.

I’ m in my room right now waiting for my dad to pull up to the house. I want to move back with my dad… I guess I can’t run away from ghosts and the paranormal after all. And to be honest with you, I would much rather be with my dad, who I know can handle paranormal activity much better than my mom.

The doorbell rings, I quickly jump up and run down the stairs to the main living room where the front door is. I was trying to be the first one to the door, but my mom is the first one there and my dad is standing awkwardly by the front door on the front porch.

 “Andrea.”

“Zak… thanks for coming.”

Zak nods and comes inside the house, “Yeah, I wish you would have called me sooner… How long have you all been living here?”

My mom replies, “About four months.”

We all move to the living room, my step-dad, dad and mom all together for once. Something that hasn’t happened for a while.

I watch as my half-brother, Asher comes crawling into the room. I try to shoo him away, but to no avail, Asher makes himself over to Zak and Zak picks Asher up with a small smile.

It remains quiet for a little while.

Finally, Zak sighs, “So, what is going on that it was urgent that I come here?”

My mom shares a look with my step-dad and says hesitantly, “Some bad things have been happening… and I believe they are of the paranormal type.”

Zak looks down, “Any specific examples that would lead you to believe this?”

I start to speak up, but my mom shakes her head, so I close my mouth and my mom continues talking, “Well there have been strange things occurring in Asher’s room, over his baby monitor. We have been hearing strange voices… We’ve checked the radio frequency thing… and we’re pretty certain there was no interference and it was on the correct one.”

My stepdad then speaks up, “We also have been hearing strange noises downstairs that wake us up sometimes in the middle of the night. It almost sounds like people are walking around and talking downstairs while we are asleep in our rooms upstairs.”

My dad looked straight at me, “Zoe? Is there anything else?”

I look up at my dad, then to my mom who shakes her head a little as if to say to stay quiet.

My dad sighs, “Zoe, can I speak to you in private?”

I nod, and I slowly lead us to my room upstairs… I am very much dreading this conversation.

Once, we are settled in my room, my dad sitting in my chair by my desk and computer and I am sitting on my bed, I immediately blurt out, “Dad, can I come home please?”

“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”

I shrug, truth is, I didn’t want to hear the told you so that would have come with telling my dad… but I don’t say any of this to my dad.

My dad gives me a look that says, you better give me an answer… or else.

“Dad, I was just trying to get away from all of this paranormal stuff… but I guess it didn’t work out.”

Zak’s point of view:

I was taken aback when Zoe said she was trying get away from all of these paranormal things. I mean that’s our… my life… I knew that the paranormal stuff was hard on her, but I didn’t know it was that hard. I know my daughter, and I know that Zoe likes to pretend that paranormal things don’t happen… I’m a paranormal investigator and my daughter is a skeptic…

Without too much of a thought, I get up from the chair and cross the room to Zoe. I sit down on the bed and I pull her into a tight hug.

“Sweetie… I want you to come home with me.”

“Tonight?”

“Yes, honey… come on I’ll help you pack.” I go over to Zoe’s closet and I take out her big black suitcase that resembles my own suitcase which is currently sitting in the back of my car. Who knows how much we’ve used them… too many to count. I then start grabbing at clothes in her closet, yanking things off hangers and throwing them into her suitcase.

“Dad?”

I look over at Zoe and realize she hadn’t even gotten up from her bed, “What? Why aren’t you packing your clothes?”

“I can’t just leave my mom, Cody and Asher here alone… what about them?”

I look down at the floor then slowly turn my eyes up to Zoe’s and I can’t believe how much desperation is in them…

There’s something Zoe isn’t telling me…
