I spent most of my days and plenty of my nights in the office. Many people would definitely think that my world revolves around my career and that is 100% true. It's not that I don't have a life but I just want to keep my father's hard work going. My father recently passed a few months ago from heart failure, leaving only my sister and I to take over his business. I am the oldest by one year, my sister Alex is 27 with enough kids to count on her fingers and toes. Don't get me wrong, I love my nieces, nephews, and brother n law dearly, and I am so happy my sister found her true happiness at such a young age. It's just that I wish I had the love and affection that her husband gives to her.
As for me, I've always put my career first. I've tried many relationships and obviously it just hasn't been for me. I've made it to a point in my life where my main focus is following my father's footsteps. Alex is the mommy's girl and I was the daddy's girl, we always had our favorite choice of parents growing up. Not in a competitive way but it sure as hell came in handy during game nights. My mother, Elizabeth Bohannon is alive and well. Still trying to control my life and my happiness. My mother is the type of mother who wants what's best for her daughters, but if it doesn't happen then she would do everything in her power to make sure it follows through. I love her with every ounce of me but sometimes I just want to live my life and continue to be successful the way I've always planned, just to make my father proud.
As I sat behind my desk typing up all the requirements for my next assistant, I was thinking about the perfect type of person my father would want working in his company. Someone who is reliable, independent, hard working, and has tons of work experience. Submit. My work was done for today and yet another hard working day was ahead of me tomorrow. Leaving my office I quickly remembered that my mother wanted me to pick up her favorite pasta from Pete's Pasta Shop, as if I wasn't exhausted enough. After my last assistant quit due to trouble at home, I've been doing everything by myself until I can find a new potential worker to interview. I climbed into my 2016 Mercedes-Benz, and called Pete to make an order before hand so I could just pick it up on the way to the house.
"This is Pete, owner of Pete's Pasta Shop, how may I assist you today?"
"Hello Pete, mom would like the usual, surprise she hasn't called to let you know yet."
"Ah, hey Lex. Your mom can definitely be a piece of work, but I'll have it ready for you once you make it."
"Thank you Petey."
Pete was a friend of my fathers, and as of now, he's the closest thing Alex and I have to a father. We adored him and we're very thankful for everything he's done for us since then. Taking the next turn left, I thought about my father and smiled instantly. Finally pulling up to Pete's, I stepped out with my 4 inch heels and professional business suit on.
"Bonjour Pete, here's my card."
"No no, madame it's on the house."
"Awe thanks, I owe you one."
"No need darling, tell your mother I said hello."
I grabbed my mother's dinner and walked away. He was such a sweet man, but he would not be so sweet when he finds out that I slipped the money by his register. He always lets us go free with payments but technically it doesn't work out the way he plans, because I always find a place to sneak the payment.
I drove towards my mother's ' luxurious mansion and quickly walked towards the door. Suddenly the door opened before I could retrieve my key to the house.
"Honey, thank you so much for picking this up for me. Did Pete try to let you go free again?"
"You already know it mom, but give me a kiss. I'm extremely tired and I just want to get home and relax in my jacuzzi."
