I smiled and waved at everyone before walking off the stage. When I got backstage, there was a group of guys who seemed to be waiting on me. When they saw me, they waved me over.
"Rain Quinn, right?" One of them asked. He was a bit taller than me, and he had long, jet black hair and bright green eyes. I nodded and he smiled brightly.
"I'm Blayze Hawthorne and this is my band. We're a fairly new band and we're looking for a lead vocalist, preferably female. Kellin told us you're a good singer, so we came to watch you for ourselves," He told me.
"Are you saying you want me to be in your band?" I asked, shocked. I had never even thought about being in a band.
Blayze nodded. "We were considering it, yes,"
I took a deep breath and smiled. "Well, what did you think about my performance?" I asked and the whole band started laughing. I looked at them in confusion.
"Don't worry, we're just laughing at how nervous you are. We loved you up there. You're a great singer, just like your brother," One of the other guys said.
"Yeah, we really want you in the band," Blayze said, smiling excitedly. My hands flew to my mouth and I screamed in excitement. I'm going to be the lead vocalist of a band.
"What is the name of the band, by the way?" I asked, laughing as I realized that they hadn't even mentioned the band name, and the only member's name I knew so far was Blayze.
"Our name is Falling Fast," Blayze started with a smile, "Come to our tour bus and the others will introduce themselves."
"Okay. I just need to let my boyfriend know where I'm going. Would you wait here for me?" I asked nervously.
"You have a boyfriend?" Blayze asked, looking slightly disappointed.
"Yes, I'm dating Jordan Witzigrueter from The Ready Set. Now stay here and I'll be right back," I replied with a laugh before walking off to find Jordan. I found him sitting with Christofer and Kellin, obviously in deep conversation about something. Kellin noticed me first, and I just waved.
"Jordan, I need to talk to you about something," I said as I walked over to them and sat down. He looked at me as if he were waiting on me to speak, so I continued.
"When I went backstage, there was this band back there waiting on me. They asked me to be their lead vocalist. Also, they wanted me to hang out with them for a little bit so I can get to know them better. Do you mind if I go to their bus for a few hours?" I asked him, bursting with excitement about my new band.
"Yeah, I'm fine with that. I'm happy for you," Jordan said before hugging me tightly. He kissed my forehead and let me go. "Now, go have fun."
I thanked him then ran off to find the guys. They were still there when I got back. Exactly where I left them.
"I'm guessing you got the okay from your man?" Blayze asked jokingly. I laughed and nodded. He smiled and gestured for me to follow him. We walked out to the bus area and walked around until we finally reached their bus. It was very nice on the inside, almost as nice as the bus I'd been sharing with Jordan for the last few days.
"Are you guys touring right now?" I asked as we all sat down in the spacey lounge area, Blayze sitting beside me and the other guys sat across from us.
"Nah. We've got some friends on your brother's management team, and we contacted him to see if we could get a chance to come check you out and possibly add you to the band," Blayze explain and I nodded in understanding. What I still didn't get is why they'd rent a huge tour bus just to follow my brother around for a few days.
"Why did you guys rent this bus then? It seems kind of stupid to rent such a nice bus for only a few days," I asked bluntly. Blayze and the other guys laughed hysterically.
"We bought this bus about a year ago. We'd never rent a big bus like this just to ride around for a few days. We figured it would save us a lot of money in the long run if we just bought our own tour bus. Since we were only going to be here a few days, I figured there was no sense in renting a small bus when we already have our own bus," Blayze explained and suddenly it made a lot of sense. I was mostly just glad that the guys weren't going to blow all the band's money of stupid stuff before I even had the chance to do anything with them.
"So... I know Blayze, but who is everyone else?" I asked, remembering once again that no one had bothered to give me an introduction to the rest of the band yet.
"Well, I'm Blayze, but you knew that, and I'm the backing vocalist and lead guitarist," Blayze said before pointing to a guy with shoulder length brown hair. I like the way his hair had just the slightest wave to it.
"That's Aubrey James. He's our drummer," Blayze explained. Aubrey waved at me and I waved back.
"That there is Gabriel Andrews. He's the rhythm guitarist. He's like the Frank Iero to my Gerard Way, if you know anything about My Chemical Romance," Blayze informed me and I laughed, completely understanding the reference. Gabriel was smaller than the band members, and he had short, floppy black hair. He sort of reminded me of Danny Worsnop from Asking Alexandria. I nodded and waited for Blayze to tell me about the last band member. He had a slight resemblance to Vic Fuentes of Pierce the Veil. He even had the hair and skin tone like Vic, who I've met a few times before while touring with my brother.
"And finally we have our Mexican beauty. Well, he's only half Mexican, but we still say he's our Mexican beauty," Blayze commented, and he and the Vic Fuentes doppelganger both laughed. "This is Caleb Rodriguez. He's the bassist for the band."
I smiled and waved, Caleb returning the gesture in true Vic Fuentes style. "Are you sure you're not related to Vic Fuentes? You remind me of him a lot," I joked.
"I get that all the time, but no, I'm not related to Vic and Mike," He replied with a laugh.
"Now that we've gotten that out of the way," Blayze began. "I want to hear you sing. Do you know Miserable at Best by Mayday Parade?"
"Yeah, I know the song. Is that what you want me to sing?" I asked him, holding back a smile. That song is one of my favorite songs ever. However, there are a lot of memories associated with the song that make me emotional when I hear or sing it. Blayze nodded, beaming from ear to ear. I took a deep, deep breath and gathered the lyrics in my head.
"Katie don't cry, I know. You're trying your hardest and the hardest part is letting go of the nights we shared. Ocala is calling. You know it's haunting, but compared to your eyes, nothing shines quite as bright, and when we look to the sky, it's not mine, but I want it so," I sang the first verse with precision and watched as the guys listened attentively.
"Let's not pretend like you're alone tonight," I started the chorus.
"I know he's there and," Blayze joined in with the backup vocals, forcing a smile out of me.
"You're probably hanging out and making eyes," I stretched out the last note, causing Blayze to smile again.
"While across the room he stares," Blayze continued.
"I bet he gets the nerve to walk the floor and ask my girl to dance, and she'll say yes," I sang, standing up and pretending to hold a microphone. Blayze laughed and followed suit. I could already see how fun life in a band is going to be.
"These words were never easier for me to say and her to second guess, but I guess that I can live without you but without you I'll be miserable at best," I finished the first chorus with the slightest hint of emotion.
"You're all that I hoped I'd find, in every single way. Everything I would give, is everything you couldn't take. 'Cause nothing feels like home when you're a thousand miles away, and the hardest part of living is just taking breaths to stay, cause I know I'm good for something I just haven't found it yet, but I need it, so," I confidently and strongly sang my way through the second verse. Blayze and I continued with the second pre-chorus, the other guys cheering us on. I tried not to let the emotion get to me in the chorus, but it was getting harder and harder. I sang the melodies with the sweetest voice, watching as Blayze practically melted in awe.
"And this'll be the first time in a week that I'll talk to you and I can't speak. It's been three whole days since I've had sleep. 'Cause I dream of his lips on your cheek and I got the point that I should leave you alone, but we both know that I'm not that strong and I miss the lips that made me fly," Blayze sang the bridge, looking at me the whole time. I smiled before starting off the pre-chorus again, then finishing off with the chorus, holding out the last note.
The guys all cheered quite loudly for Blayze and me.
"You two should date!" Little Gabriel yelled out. My face turned bright red and Caleb punched him in the arm.
"Shut up, Gabriel! Way to ruin the mood, dude," Caleb scolded him. I calmly sat back down on the couch beside Blayze, not looking at him.
"She's got a boyfriend, Gabe. If you mess with Jordan's girl, you might have Chris and Jordan coming after you. You're gonna get Blayze jumped, dude," Aubrey said to Gabriel, who just stuck his tongue out at everyone.
"Anyway," Blayze interjected, keeping the argument from going any further. "You're a great singer, Rain. You're going to be a great addition to our little family."
"Are you guys going to be around tomorrow or are you leaving tonight?" I asked, still avoiding eye contact with Blayze.
"We'll be around," Blayze replied, not seeming to notice my awkwardness.
"Okay well, um, I'm going to go now," I started, my awkwardness reaching maximum level. Blayze grabbed a notebook off the table, which I'm assuming is his songwriting notebook, and started writing. He tore out the corner and handed it to me.
"That's my number. Text me when you get a chance," Blayze added sweetly. How am I supposed to walk out on that? He's making it hard even remember that I have boyfriend. I sighed inwardly before taking it and leaving the bus. I jogged back to Jordan's bus, trying to avoid thoughts of Blayze.
