The resounding sounds of teenage chatter and gossip hits me like a burn.

“The new girl,”

“She looks plain”

“She looks like a nerd”

“She’s kind of hot”

“What’s up with her clothes?”

“Ugh, I expected more”

I heard their whispers as clear as daylight, my werewolf senses were excellent.

I peered down at the concrete and walked with my head down into the main office. I didn’t care for the aesthetics of the school. It looked like a plain brick building.

I approach the front desk. Where an elderly lady was peering down at a computer with triangular glasses on and her gray hair neatly buned up.

“Umm, my name is Hadley Lacroix. I am the new transfer student and here for my schedule.” I said in a hushed toned.

“Hadley? Hmm, oh yes, Ms.Lacroix! Your schedule and locker combo is on that desk in the corner right there.” She said without looking up from her computer.

“Ok, thank you.” I rushed and grabbed my schedule and was out the door.

Peering back at the concrete floors, I watched my footsteps pound the floor. My classes were easy to remember and the teacher names were common enough for me to easily find the classrooms. Smith, Williams, Robins etc. I read out. My locker was conveniently number 333 and the combo the secretary given me was 1112, she wasn’t very original. I empty my bag and crap I had in my locker and walked to my first class.

“Bienvenue en France!” A banner proudly proclaimed on the front door of the class.

I always wanted to go to France because of my little problems this is probably as close to France I could possibly get.

I walked into a full classroom and the students were all chattering amongst themselves. I peered back at my toms and made my way towards to teacher’s desk.

“Hello, I’m Hadley Lacroix and this is my first day in your class,” I said to Ms. Smith

She looked up from her textbook and stared down at me.

“Hadley, I am expecting you. Well, you can sit at any empty seat you would like and someone in the classroom ought to catch you up. I assume you have taken or haven been exposed to French some time in your life,” Ms. Smith Said and looked back at her textbook

I nodded my head making sure she was looking at me before I left. I glanced around the room for an empty seat. It seemed there were only three available. One in the front right next to Ms. Smith, one in the back left corner and the other in the middle situated between a group of popular looking people. I chose to sit in the back corner, away from everyone.

I sat down and didn’t make eye contact with anyone even though Ms. Smith told me to get acquainted I refused to follow her orders, sure enough as Ms. Smith started her lecture I realized that I was far ahead of the class so I sat and quietly doddled for the next hour.

Class after class started and ended, I found myself bored, I ate outside on a lunch table no one was sitting at. This school was the same as the last. I looked forward to going home.

The boys had found friends to hang around of course and I found myself driving home alone.

Once I got home the wolf inside of me was whining to explore the forest so I obliged. Seeing that my parent’s car wasn’t in the garage I took my clothes off and neatly folded them. They rested on a bush just in case I needed a quick change. I morphed, feeling my bones cracking and my nose extending into snout, I became a pure white wolf. The color of fur was strange back in New York I had to make sure is will hidden since my fur didn’t provide me with any camouflage. I liked to think of myself as an arctic wolf.

For the first time today, I was excited. I ran quickly into the forest. The smells of pine, dirt and the buzzing of flies hit me well. I ran across logs and broken branches. I stopped at tree’s that looked interesting and watched birds fly passed the sky. I was at peace. I found a nice clearing in the forest where the sun hits the grass directly creating warm spots. I rolled around lazily in the clearing with my belly up and tongue sticking out.

My ears perked up as I heard the rustle of a bush. A unique smell filled my nose; it wasn’t the smell of danger but a smell of curiosity. The human side told me to run but the wolf said told me to stay and inspect. I howled trying to get the intruder out of their hiding place.

The rustle of the bush grew louder and all of a sudden I was surrounded. Wolves of every color and size surrounded me. They built a circle around me and curious eyes stared at me as if I was some kind of display item. My wolf did not like this nor did my human. I wanted to escape, I haven’t felt fear for awhile but now it was striking me head on. They stared at me wanting me to speak to them but the words had left my body. I turned quickly around looking for a way to make it out of there alive and sure enough there was a small gap in between what looked to be wolf cubs. They looked weak enough for me to pounce and use as a spring board as my escape. I calculated my plan and within a split second I decided to make a run for it, no one was as fast as me.

Sure enough the two cubs stopped looking at me and I pounced on them. I jumped on their shoulders with my two paws and landed 30 feet away from the circle. I took off running, I could hear their paws pounding the ground as they took off after me. I made twist and turns, threaded through trees and bushes to lose them. I finally approached my house and morphed back changing into my clothes I left behind. I knew I had lost them but I never looked behind me, it would make me slower and speed wasn’t something I could afford to lose.
