Lilac
When I woke up again I was alone in the dark. Dad is gone and I know I'll never get myself to sleep again. I kicked the covers off me and carelessly jumped off the bed which made me stiffen. I got that shock of pain that goes through you from too sudden movements. Ow. I shook it off and walked barefoot to the door. I've got to see if Roxi is ok. I turned the silver knob then noticed blue light shining all around, dad must have put a protection spell on it. It keeps out all unwanted demonic creatures but it wears off after awhile. I opened the door and crept outside looking left and right finding the hallway deserted. Except down on the left was the front of the hospital with people rushing around and I can hear a baby crying. With the pitter patter of my small feet I snuck going right where it was quiet and no person was in sight. She would be out of surgery now right? Why wouldn't they put us in the same room? We have to stay together, I need to be with her and make sure she's ok. Where would they put her? Is there a room where they put all patients that just came from surgery? How am I going to do this? Suddenly I heard male voices and squeaky wheels rolling across the floor. I hid behind a pot plant and waited for two male nurses pushing hospital bed with someone in it but I couldn't see the person. All I know is, it's not Roxi.
"Did you see the girl?" One of them started and I keyed in to what they were talking about.
"Worst animal attack I've ever seen in my life. One of the teachers thought it was some demon from the pits of hell."
"With those cuts and scars I could almost believe it." They voices started to fade as they walked further down another long corridor. I guess I have to follow them so I proceeded after them trying to be discreet and it worked because they were oblivious to the fact they were being followed. They went through these big blue double doors but I went another way, following what I think are my instincts... I think it's mother helping me. I've always felt as if she was with me all this time protecting me and leading me to safety, but then there are moments when I feel lost and alone and I think that's when she goes back to the 'other side'. Sounds strange but it's helped me through her passing.
"Help me mummy. Help me find her." I whispered to the walls hoping that she's listening. Suddenly the lights in the corridor turned off with moonlight shining through the windows. Then from the first window a white ghostly horse appeared standing under the moonlight. White mist glowing around it as it silently neighed. Mum loved horses... "Mummy?" It got up its hind legs then turned around running into the shadows and I couldn't see it until it was under moonlight again. It looked at me with it's soulless eyes waiting impatiently for me and I turned around just in case it was meant for someone else. Then I charged after it, watching it disappear when the moon wasn't shining on it then reappear as if it was always there. I tried to touch it but my hand went right through it feeling ice cold air. I whipped it back in surprise then the beautiful white horse froze at a door and I skidded to a holt. I slipped and fell on my back making myself cry out in pain then the lights turned on, and that pretty horse disappeared. I stood up and dusted myself off before slowly and quietly pushing the door open, I peeked my head inside seeing several beds with sleeping girls and boys my age or younger pushed up against the walls. Except for one boy who looked about 13 or 14 sat up on his bed reading a novel, the chronicles of Vladimir Todd. I read that series, it's pretty good if you love vampires. It portrays them perfectly. He's bald, head smooth and shiny and he glanced up at me. The only light source was his little lamp so he squinted closer to see me.
"Who are you?" He asked softly careful not to wake the others. I gulped and stepped in closing the door behind me. I walked over to him being light on my feet and he just looked at me suspiciously.
"I'm Lilac, I'm sorry if I'm bothering you..." I said nervously and he relaxed back his eyes gazing up and down on me. He had a plain face, round nose and big dark eyes, his lips were pale and the top lip was slightly larger than the bottom. "I'm just looking for my sister." I said truthfully.
